Abstract

E2-EPF5, UMA INUSITADA PROTEìNA E ALVO TERAPêUTICO. A presente invenção refere-se a usos inusitados para a enzima conjugante de ubiquitina, E2-EPF5. Particularmente, a inibição da atividade de E2-EPF5 demonstrou reduzir a produção de VEGF, bem como de outras proteínas reguladas pelo fator de transcrição HIF-1, em resposta à hipáxia. Baseado nessas descobertas, a presente invenção fornece métodos terapêuticos e composições farmacêuticas úteis para o tratamento de doenças relacionadas à angiogênese induzida por VEGF. Além disso, E2-EPF5 é disponibilizada como um alvo para o desenvolvimento de produtos terapêuticos. Conseqúentemente, a invenção fornece métodos de triagem para identificar compostos candidatos que inibem a atividade de E2-EPF5 e podem ser usados, portanto, para tratar a angiogênese induzida por VEGF, tal como a angiogênese relacionada a tumores. Finalmente, a invenção fornece também métodos para a inibição de VEGF e outras proteínas reguladas por HIF-1.
