Abstract

MéTODO PARA PREVENIR E/OU TRATAR INFECçõES VAGINAIS E VULVARES. A invenção fornece um método para tratar e/ou prevenir uma ampla série de infecções vaginais e vulvares, tais como aquelas causadas por bactérias, parasitas ou leveduras, administrando ácido gálico a um individuo que necessita de tratamento. Descreve-se também uma composição que contém ácido gálico para tratar infecções vaginais. Descobriu-se que o ácido gálico é capaz de inibir seletivamente o crescimento de Trichomonas vaginalis, um parasita que causa vaginite por tricomona; Gardnerella vaginalis, uma bactéria que causa vaginose bacteriana; e Candida albicans, uma levedura que causa candidíase e vulvite; e ao mesmo tempo, sem inibir o crescimento de Lactobacillus acidophilus, a bactéria dominante em um ecossistema vaginal sadio. O ácido gálico é seguro e rentável, e pode ser usado isoladamente ou incorporado em diferentes produtos para saúde vaginal, para tratar e/ou prevenir infecções vaginais.
