Abstract

PROCESSO PARA UTILIZAçãO DO áCIDO CìTRICO COMO AGENTE DEPRESSOR NA FLOTAçãO SELETIVA DE MINERAIS CARBONATADOS. The present invention relates to the flotation process for the processing of carbonated or silica-carbonated gangue phosphate ores. The process is based on the use of citric acid as a depressant for apatite and is characterized by presenting the direct and reverse flotation steps, but can present the cleaner and scavenger flotation steps according to the ore characteristics. Initially the ore sample should be conditioned, if necessary, with a dispersant and a depressant for the silicate minerals according to the characteristics of the gangue minerals for a certain time. Subsequently, conditioning with anionic collector added at the dosage within the range of 0.1 to 1.2 kg.t-1 and maintaining the pH between 8.0 and 12.0 should be performed. Direct flotation at this pH generates a rougher apatite and calcite concentrate that must be conditioned for a certain time with citric acid, added in the dosage within the range of 0.5 to 10.0 kg.t-1. Conditioning with citric acid should be done keeping the pH between 4.0 and 6.8. If necessary, other conditioning with collector can be done keeping the pH between 4.0 and 6.8 according to the characteristics of the ore. The next step of the process is the reverse flotation of calcite and apatite depression using citric acid and maintaining the pH in the range of 4.0 to 6.8.
