equipamento para tratamento de imagens dentárias e faciais. para o tratamento de imagens dentais e faciais, uma fonte de raios x (14) ou outra radiação penetrante e um detector (20) são montados opostos um ao outro num pórtico rotativo (28), de forma que a cabeça do paciente possa ficar posicionada entre a fonte (14) e o detector (20), com o eixo de rotação (36) do pórtico passando pela cabeça do paciente. o detector é mais longo numa direção do que na direção do que na direção perpendicular, geralmente retangular,e é rotativo entre uma posição em que o eixo longo é transversal ao eixo de rotação do pórtico e uma posição em que eixo longo é geralmente paralelo ao eixo de rotação do pórtico. o comprimento do detector ao longo do eixo longo é suficiente para ct computado completamente detalhado, quando o eixo longo for transversal, e para ct da face completa, quando o eixo longo for paralelo.
