In this prior art publication, the disclosing device is an integral part of the passport and is in the form of an additional page comprising means capable of decoding the concealed information. More precisely, the hidden information 20 is of a predetermined type. Cardboard 10 is classically manufactured by laminating plastic layers together. Thus, preferably, as illustrated in FIG. 2, the body 12 of the carton is formed by a laminate assembly of a stack of layers. The information is encoded according to a predetermined type of decoding. Thus, steganographically hidden information is encoded according to a predetermined interference technique.

In a first variant, the information may comprise a polarized element, i.e. comprising a favorable viewing direction, and the means for disclosing such information comprises an optical element, such as a polarized filter, comprising a favorable polarizing direction.

In a second variant, the information is colored with an ink of a predefined color, and the developing means comprises, for example, a color filter corresponding to the predefined color with which the information was encoded. This type of coding may require the use of specific tools.

The main aspects of an authenticity verification procedure of the authenticatable document of the invention as illustrated in Figure 1 will now be described.

Shown in Fig. 3 are first and second authenticatable documents 10A and 10B, for example, identity cards, respectively belonging to a first and a second bearer.

In the following description, an index A will be assigned to the numerical references designating the elements of the authenticating document 10A, and an index B to the numerical references designating the elements of the authenticating document 10B.

In this illustrated example, the data held by each card is personal data relating to the identity of their cardholders. Personal data include especially a photograph, and data referring to first and last names, as well as the date of birth.

In order to authenticate, for example, the first authenticatable document 10A, it is sufficient to overwrite the authenticatable document IOB so that the disclosure means 28B of the IOB document substantially coincide with the position of the hidden information 20A present in the first document 10A.

Thus, as can be seen in figure 3, the initially hidden information appears and becomes noticeable.

Thanks to the invention, it is possible to quickly and without the need for complex tools authenticate an authenticable document in the form of a hard or semi-rigid card. This document has a high quality, particularly reliable and simple to use security.
