Description
~ -;
F = 35d2 ~ 260d où F est exprimee en Newton/m et d en mm.
v = 2TN
The present invention relates to a method of electro- brewing magnetic, sliding field, ingot mold for continuous metal casting fusion and in particular steel.
Generally, during the continuous casting of steel, the inclusions non-metallic inevitably present in the liquid bath, and in particular link the larger ones which are the most annoying, tend to concentrate immediately below the surface of the products. For obvious reasons of surface quality of rolled products, in particular when they are intended for the production of sheets for deep drawing, we are then leads to flame the first few millimeters of product skin beforehand rough casting. For large section products, such as slabs, such flaming commonly leads to a loss of steel close to 4% by weight, and to significant expenditure on oxygen and labor.
We currently know that the quantity and distribution of inclusions are conditioned by the nature of the flow of liquid metal in the ingot mold and we were able to show that it was possible to avoid flaming means of good control of the convection movements which develop in the liquid steel within the mold.
For this purpose ~ it is known, and the work of the applicant has strong-ment contributed ~ application for French hrevet n 72/20544 filed on June 8, 1972 and published on January 18, lg74 under the number 2187465; french patent application n 73/37514 filed on October 19, 1973 and published on May 16, 1975 under n 2248103; Canadian patent applications 261375 and 261398; all deposited in name the French Siderurgy Research Institute) to be able to create in the metal bath of convection movements effectively washing the forehead solidification by means of a non-stationary magnetic field, sliding the along the walls of the mold, and preferably from bottom to top so to further promote rapid settling of inclusions on the surface free from metal.
Generally, the magnetic field is created by a poly-phased, similar to a linear motor stator, of tubular structure and ... q ~
~ -;
78 ~ 3 surrounding the product flows at the level of the mold ~ The results obtained are positive in the sense that they actually show a: transfer of heap of subcutaneous inclusions towards the center of the products. However he this is a relatively recent technique which has so far not reached all its maturity and which still poses a certain number of problems, in particular on the electromagnetic level: one of the major difficulties encountered - the -~ C ~ 78 ~ 3 consists in knowing how to judiciously dose the action of the inductor so obtaining quickly and easily, a desired industrial result is reliable, without unnecessarily long and costly experimentation.
The object of the present invention is precisely to provide the means for easily overcome such a difficulty.
The present invention therefore provides an electro-magnetic of molten metals, within a continuous casting machine, using a non-stationary magnetic field, sliding along the walls of the mold, characterized in that the propagation of said magnetic field takes place in the upward direction from the lower part of the lingo-at least up to the level of the free surface of the cast metal and in this that we adjust the action of the magnetic field according to the desired displacement d clusters of non-metallic inclusions from the surface to the center of the cast products, so that the density density F, acting in the metal bath satisfies the relation:
F = 35d2 ~ 260d where F is expressed in Newton / m and d in mm.
According to an equivalent definition of the present invention, the effective value Be ~ f of the magnetic field in accordance with the relation:
eff ~ yv ~ 35d2 ~ 26od)) l / 2 o ~ B ~ ff is expressed in Tesla; d represents as above, the displacement desire8 clusters of inclusions from the surface of the products to a pro-desired cross-country, expressed in mm; ~ represents the electrical conductivity of the metal bath ~ expressed in ohm 1 m 1, v represents the speed of propagation tion due to sliding magnetic field, expressed in m / s.
As will be understood, the present invention aims to improve the pro-inclusionary loan of continuously cast products. To this end, it provides to the casting operator a means for adjusting the action of the inductor so that the high concentration of inclusions which, in the presence of electro- mixing magnetic is located immediately below the surface of the products, ie Fer8e towards the axis of the latter on a desired value depth and pre-d8termin8e.
~; q J ~ 781: 343 Of course, this transfer cannot exceed the corresponding depth.
due to the thickness of the crust solidified at the level of the exit from the air gap of the inductor, and which is specific to the dimensioning of the apparatus used.
Beyond this, in fact, the inductor has practically no more control action convection movements within the metal bath.
The industrial tests carried out by the applicant have shown except that the upward electromagnetic mixing, that is to say rising along the walls of the mold, to a level corresponding to at least to that of the free surface of the cast metal, caused not only a decrease in the total amount of inclusions, but also, and above all, a displacement of the zone with a high content of inclusions from the surface towards the center of the cast product, and on the other hand that this increased displacement * has with the power of action of the inductor.
The explanation advanced by the applicant is as follows: the metal in fusion introduced by the casting jet penetrates inside the liquid metal contained in the mold with a certain amount of movement and causes thus the ormation of an axial current descending within the metal. Of on the other hand the magnetic field sliding upwards gives liquid metal in the peripheral zone ~ in contact with the solidification front) a upward movement in opposite direction ~ that of the introduction of the metal.
By the combined action of these two phenomena, it is thus established in the mold a permanent circulatory current, the liquid metal going back to the periphery and down to the center. The inclusions are thus reamed-born towards the free surface of the cast metal where a part naturally settles and the other part is axially re-centered within the liquid mass until at a depth, downstream of the inductor, where the electromagnetic effects do not being more sensitive, they are trapped by the solidification front.
The applicant continued his research in order to confirm the existence tence of a relation between the power of action of the inductor and the importance transfer of inclusions to the center of the cast products, and 3Q managed to represent it by an analytical expression, easily exploitable, of shape:
~ = 35d ~ 260d ~ 78 ~ 3 where F, expressed in N / m3, represents the volume density of force to be created in the metal bath by the electromagnetic inductor to repel the clusters of inclusions inside the product flows over a distance d, ex-prime in mm, and counted from the surface of this product.
In fact, the presence of the density density of force F in this relationship may have some drawbacks in that it does not have a concrete physical reality, directly accessible through experimentation. For determine it it is indeed necessary to calculate it, from measurements performed on other electrical or magnetic parameters of the inductor ~
It follows that in practice, the casting operator can modulate the action of the inductor by acting directly, not on the force density F, but on other parameters, the most easily adjustable of which is without doubt the magnetic field because you just have to modify 1 ' intensity of electric current in the inductor.
It is known, in the technical field considered, that the density volume of force F (or more simply the electromagnetic force) can be determined by expression F = yv Beff where y represents the electrical conductivity of the metal bath ~ in ~ 1 m), Beff represents the effective value of the magnetic field (in Tesla) at the level of the ingot mold contact area - product flows, and v represents the module the speed of propagation of the sliding field (in m / s).
The speed v can be expressed: according to the relation:
v = 2TN
OR T represents the polar pitch of the inductor ~ in m) and N represents the quence of the electric excitation current (in Hz) flowing in the inductor.
~ at electromagnetic force F can then take the form following analytic:
F = 2ylN Beff A priori it appears possible to modify the force F, for example to increase it, by acting on the frequency N and / or on the magnetic field AT
~ 78 ~ 43 Beff. However, the applicant has from ~ to highlighted in the application for Canadian Patent No. 271465 that due to the presence of an ingot mold in electrically conductive material, the magnetic field passing through it the latter is not insensitive to the frequency of the excitation current. he therefore exists, for a dormant ingot mold, a frequency of the optic current male beyond which the electromagnetic force F decreases ~ t.
A preferred implementation of the invention therefore consists in maintaining the frequency of the current, that is to say the speed v, at a constant value and to adjust the Beff magnetic field in accordance with the following relationship:
Beff = {rV (35d2 + 260d)} l / 2 It will be advantageous to set the frequency of the current at its value optimal, as taught in French application No. 75/05623 ~ filed on 24 February 1975 on behalf of the Research Institute of the Siderurgie Franc, comfortable and published on September 17, 1976 under the number 2301325, but it goes without saying that is not essential for the implementation of the present invention.
We will now describe an example of application as an illustration.
tif and without intending to limit the scope of the invention. An ingot mold of continuous casting of 120 mm square steel billets is equipped an electromagnetic inductor constituted by a stack of six coils, 2Q ~ preferably identical to each other but not necessarily) and including that located at the upper end is at a level corresponding to the level using the free surface of the cast metal. These six coils are connected between them in pairs in series-opposition, and connected to a tri-phased so as to generate, in the mold cavity, a flow wave magnetic which goes up along the walls of this one. In this case describes, the ingot mold element defining the passage for the product cast is of chromium-zirconium copper with structural hardening and its thickness is 8 mm. Of course, this is a null characteristic.
ment necessary for the implementation of the invention but which the applicant pre-3Q conise all the same the option because it allows the use of walls of weak thickness, therefore more permeable to the magnetic field without harming 1 ~
1 ~ 78 ~ 43 their good mechanical behavior. Billet extraction speed is close continuously 2 m per minute and, taking into account the cooling conditions ment, the thickness of the solidified crust at the exit of the 1 'air gap inductor is approximately 12 mm. The useful length of the inductor is 0.48 m, value corresponding to twice its polar pitch ~. The inductor a has been designed to provide a maximum intensity of 350 Aeff per phase a single voltage of 55V. For example, the casting operator wants to push back the peak of inclusions at a depth of about 8 mm below the surface of the bil-lettes. In accordance with the invention, the inductor must then create in the ba ~ n metallic, an electromagnetic force F of 4320 N ~ m3. The frequency of excitation current was set at 10 Hz, which in the case described corresponds to the optimal value. Considering the electrical conductivity molten steel (around 6.25 x 105 Q 1 m 1) the operator must therefore set the effective value of the magnetic field ~ 0.038 Tesla, under 380 G.
During the tests, an inclusion peak located 8 mm deep was obtained by a magnetic field of 420 G. The above relationships give There are therefore values approached at 10% which is entirely suitable.
The process according to the invention can be applied to any product continuous cast metal regardless of its composition or format.
It allows the clumps of inclusions to be pushed back at will center of products cast to predetermined depths, and selected by operators according to subsequent metallurgical treatments such than rolling, so that a good surface quality is guaranteed of these products without resorting to preliminary tralations such as flame or others.
