Abstract

Cette invention porte sur des copolymères contenant des groupes carboxyliques, ayant un indice d'acidité compris entre 20 et 150 mg de KOH/g et un poids moléculaire moyen de 2 000 à 8 000, qui est préparé de préférence à partir de copolymères contenant des groupes hydroxyle par une réaction avec des anhydrides d'acides carboxyliques, elle porte aussi sur un procédé pour leur préparation et pour leur utilisation comme agents de revêtement. On peut préparer ces copolymères à groupes hydroxyle à l'aide d'une solution de polymérisation à radicaux libres à des températures de 130 à 200 degrés C, de préférence de 150 à 180 degrés C, de 5 à 25 % en poids d'un ester vinylique, de 10 a 50 % en poids d'un composé aromatique vinylique , de 10 à 40 % en poids d'un ester hydroxyalkylique d'acides carboxyliques alpha, bêta-insaturés et de 0 à 40 % en poids de monomères contenant des groupes carboxyliques et (ou) d'autres monomères. On commence avec l'ester vinylique seul et on mesure la quantité des autres monomères à mesure qu'ils sont ajoutés, pendant des périodes d'addition égales pour tous les monomères, de la façon suivante : 1) la quantité d'ester hydroxyalkyle ajoutée par unité de temps doit rester constante 2) la quantité de composé aromatique vinylique ajoutée au cours du premier tiers de la période d'addition du monomère est de 15 à 30 % en poids, celle qui est ajoutée pendant le deuxième tiers est de 25 à 40 % en poids, et celle qui est ajoutée pendant le dernier tiers est de 35 à 60 % en poids, par rapport à la quantité totale de composé aromatique vinylique dans tous les cas.
