Abstract

L'invention concerne un dispositif de télécommunication peu coûteux utilisant des éléments existants situés au domicile ou au bureau tels qu'un récepteur de télévision (15) et un téléphone (2) afin de créer un terminal d'affichage interactif (17) permettant d'accéder à des informations stockées dans des bases de données informatiques éloignées. Dans un mode de réalisation de l'invention, le terminal (17) est configuré avec les constituants logiques nécessaires afin de communiquer avec un système informatique central par l'intermédiaire de lignes téléphoniques (1). Dans un autre mode de réalisation, le dispositif peut être connecté directement à un réseau d'extraction de données interne. Le terminal (17) est commandé par logiciel au niveau de la base de données centrale et il peut être destiné à un système de base de données informatique central particulier, ou il peut être utilisé avec divers systèmes centraux. On peut utiliser une mémoire d'écrans multiples, laquelle est programmable au niveau de la base de données centrales, afin de stocker de multiples écrans télévision d'informations. Des périphériques tels qu'une imprimante ou une unité de disques peuvent être rattachés au terminal (17). Le dispositif, lorsqu'il est déconnecté de la base de données centrale, peut être programmé afin de fonctionner de manière autonome. On utilise une technique de compression de données afin de réduire le temps de communication entre le système informatique central et le terminal (17).
