Abstract

For a packaging (1), consistant of an internal bag (2) containing for example a product preserved under vacuum, of an external container and of a small frame with integral lid (6) made of plastic material, an improved sticking system is described, which renders both said bag and the external container integral with the small frame itself. The adoption is envisaged of reliefs on the lower wall of the flange (10) of the small frame, and of branched fins (30) arranged in the peripheral groove (12) of said small frame, into which the edge of the external container is inserted, in order to increase the surface area for adhesion, promote the distribution of the glue and to create barriers to the passage of air for the purpose of improving the hermetic sealing of the lid during the use of the packaging. The upper edge of the external container can also have a differently shaped configuration in order to improve adhesion.

Description

w092/l~39 " ,~ PCT/I'S92/~81 ~ckagi~g 8ystem I~clu~ing 8~all Fr~m~ With I~tegral ~id, Bag And Exter~al co~tai3er D~SCRIPT~ON
The present invent$on relates to a system for sticking a small frame with integral lid made of plastic material to a bag and to an external container, into which the b~g itself i~ in~erted 80 a~ to form as a whole a boxed packaging which is hesmetically ~ealed during the use of the packag~ng.
Packagings of this type are alroady known, which are formed by hn lntern~l b~g of ~quare ~h~pe containing for example, roa~t ~nd ground coffee p~ckod under vacuum, by an extern~l container, u~ually a box m~de of card, and by a small frame with integral lid m de of plastic material which is ~oined both to the internal b~g and to the external container.
Such pac~agings generally have an un~ti~factory ~oin both between the lower ~urface of the flange of the small fr~me and the internal bag, and between the upper edge of the external container and the small frame itself. This leads tO imperfect airtightne~s which compromises the preservation of the aroma of the product, in p~rticular in the case of coffee, once the user has opened the wall of the bag appearing in the opening . .

U092/1~39 PCTt~'S92t~81 delimited by the flange, notwithstanding the good her-metic ~ea~ing exi~ting between the lid and the upper rim of the ~mall frame, which i8 en~ured by a gasket.
~he aim of the pre~ent invention i~ to equip the Ismall frame with integral lid made of plastic material with a sticking system which has the following advantages in relation to the other versions already on the market:
a) better adhesion of the flange of the small frame with integral lid to the surface of the internal envelope, represented in th~s case by a bag under v~cuum;
b) better airt~ghtness of the sticking zone ~etween the flange and the bag, and c) greater adhesion of the 8mall frame to the external container, represented for example by a card-bo~rd envelope.
The excellent adhes~on chAracteristics obtained using the sticking ~y~tem according to the invention render the packaging more hermetic and more r~sistant to th~ condition~ of ~tress wh~ch are often brought about during tran~port and use in the domestic environment.
The sticking ~ystRm has b~en developed, in a spec~f~c manner, for A packaging for roast and ground coffee, packAged under vacuum, although the same i~ also Applicable to different categoriQ~ of product such a~, for e~amplo, pe~nuts, bi~cuits, cocoa or the like or det~rgent~ packaged in ~ype~ of pac~aging hAving a boxed envelope.
In general, the invention guarantee~ a better m~thod of stic~ing an element made of plastic material, represented for ~xample by a d$~pen~ing m~or, to a container.
Ascording to the in~ention, the sticking ~ystem i5 based on the co~binstion of ons or more of the follow-ing characteristic~:
a) part of the groove for sticking the flange of the small frame made of plastic material, in which the edge~ of the external container are ins~rted, has bran~hed sticking fins. These branched fin~ guarantee a more extensive three-dimensional and multidirectional ' ~092/l~3~ ~ Lù J~ 7 PCT/~'S92/0081 contact with the glue, through the ~ticking planes, by means of multiple orientAtion in space. As a result of the greater surface area of the ~pecific zone~ of the ~mAll frame which are expo~ed to the glue and of the 5 appropriate orientation of the sticking fins, the a,dhesion force, when the external container i9 ~tucX to the ~mall frame, i~ greater.
b) The lower surface of the fl_nge of the ~mall fr_me mAde of pl_stic material i8 corrugated instead of ~mooth. ~his shaped finish of the sticking flange rendsr~
its surface non-uniform and therefore the layer of glue which connects the 8mAll frame to the bag is di tributed three-dimensionally. This increAse~ the surface area of the ~mall frame available for adhesion, divide~ the stress of detachment into components of elongation and shear and thus improveJ the adhesion betwe~n the small frame and the sticking means. Moreover, the incorporation of lines of continuity along the entire periphery of the shapad part render~ tho sticking more sirtight by means of the b~rsierJ pre~ented to the exchange of ga~eJ from one ~ide to tho oppo~ite Jide o~ the layer of glue.
c) It i~ moreov~r enviJ~ged that the upper edge of the external conta~ner to be connected to the flange ha~ a non-uniform fini~h of the Jurface in~tead of a flat smooth finiJh. Thi~ non-uniform fin~Jh of the upper edge of the cont~iner AlJo p rmits the m~king of thsee-dimen~ional and multidirection~l cont~ct w~th the areas of glue, increasing in this manner the surface area of the container Available for adhe~ion, and distributing the streJs into component~ of elongation and she~r.
Packagings with a boxed envelope are already known, such pack~gings involving the u~e of a l~d made of pls~tic mAterial ~tuc~ both to the internal bag and to the external container. However, the adhe~ion properties and the ~trength of the pack~ging are in general li~;ted a~ a result of the smooth and uniform surface available for adhesion between the part~.
Moreover, the ~ticking rib~ used in p~ckagings of the prior ar~ to fix the small frame with integral lid to .

~o9~ PCT/~S92/0081 the external container provide a limited surface area for adhQsion, while the branched structure of the fin~, according tO the invention, guarante~s a multiaxial orientation of the ~ticking surfaces capable of increasing the adhesion in all necessary directions.
Also known i8 a uniform and smooth sticking flange of the ~mall frame, which is used to connect a small frame with integral lid made of plastic m terial to a ~upport surface. The sh~ped, non-uniform design of the stic~Lng flange, according to the pre~ent invention, provides a three-dimensional and multldirectional orien-tation of the sticking surface, with a consQquQnt in-crease in the adhesion force in A11 direction~. The lines of continuity in the stic~ing arrangement guarantee better airtightness when barrier properties are reguired of the glue zo~e~. ~oreover, the surface fini~h of the ~tick$ng flange l~m~t~ the discharge of the glue when the two element~ are connected and the surface finish itself also p~rmitJ a suitAble distribution of the excRs~ glue according to a preferred d~rectlon, increasing in this manner the adhe~ion in other part~ of the surfAce.
The non-uniform finish of tho upper sticking edge~ of the extern~l contai~er, likewi~o envisaged by the present invention, guarAntee~ la~tly a much better adhesion in rel~tion to the flat and uniform finish of the ~ticking surface in all the packagings with boxed envelope known t~day.

In Figure 1, the boxed pack~ging for a granular product; o~ the type con~idered in the present invention, is repre~ented diagrammatic~lly in longitudinal cross-se~tion. This pac~aging, indicated ~g a whole by 1, co~pri~es an internal bag 2 of es~ent~.ally parallele-pipedal shape, which contains any product 3, for example ' ~092/l~3~ PCT/US92/~81 roast and ground coffee packed under vacuum, an external container 4, constituted for example by a box made of c~rd, and a lid indicated as a whole by 6, which i9 formed by a small frame 7 which is integral with a closure lid 8 which pivot~ aoout a hinge 9 of the ~ame mzlterial a~ the small frame itqelf.
