Abstract

Processes for the non-glutaraldehyde fixation of a prosthesis to be implanted in a mammal whereby the prosthesis is fixed by employing coupling agents and/or cross-linking agents to form amide linkages between and within the proteinaceous molecules of the prosthetic tissue.
The disclosed processes prevent or retard calcification and result in a nontoxic product which does not cause inflammation, providing prostheses that are well-suited for implantation in a mammal.
