Abstract

Procédé et appareil destinés à enduire la surface d'une bande de métal allongée, comme par exemple une bande d'aluminium, d'une couche de polymère solide. Le procédé consiste à chauffer le polymère pour obtenir un bain de fusion ayant une viscosité d'au moins 1000 centipoises selon la norme de mesure ASTM D4440 à 1 radian par seconde, à faire jaillir le bain de fusion sur la surface en déplacement d'une bande de métal à travers la fente allongée d'une tête d'enduction dotée d'une surface étendue contiguë à la fente disposée en angle par rapport à la surface en déplacement pour former un intervalle d'enduction en convergence par rapport au sens de déplacement, créant ainsi une couche sur la bande de métal, et à déplacer la tête d'enduction vers la surface de la bande lorsque le bain de revêtement jaillit de la fente sur la surface afin de réduire l'épaisseur de revêtement à la dimension voulue en appuyant la surface étendue de la tête d'enduction sur le revêtement au moment où celui-ci se forme. L'appareil comprend le chauffage du revêtement fourni par un dispositif de chauffe afin de maintenir la viscosité du bain de fusion, et un dispositif d'application de charges pour la tête d'enduction, ainsi qu'un dispositif destiné à faire fondre le polymère et à le distribuer sous pression et à la température voulue jusqu'à la tête d'enduction. Le procédé et appareil permet d'enduire des bandes de métal de couches de polymères de 1 à 100 microns d'épaisseur sans avoir recours à des dissolvants ou à d'autres liquides analogues qui sont une source de pollution atmosphérique.
