Abstract

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant de caractériser des micro-organismes, au moyen de données spectrales obtenues par spectrométrie de masse à temps de vol à désorption et ionisation laser assistée par matrice (MALDI-TOF-MS) pour une gamme de micro-organismes connus. Ces données spectrales sont incluses dans une base de données comprenant des données spectrales pour tous les micro-organismes connus. On prépare un échantillon d'un micro-organisme non identifié et on l'analyse au moyen des techniques MALDI-TOF-MS afin d'obtenir les données spectrales de ce micro-organisme inconnu. On compare ensuite ces données, par des moyens de comparaison appropriés, aux données spectrales contenues dans la base de données. La similarité indique le genre et l'identité indique le micro-organisme specifique. L'appareil utilisé pour cette analyse présente l'avantage d'être relativement facile d'emploi, une fois installé et étalonné.
