Pour produire sur un substrat (3) une couche superficielle contenant du carbure ou une solution solide de carbone, on immerge ledit substrat (3) dans un bain froid de milieu actif liquide (7), et on le chauffe dans ce dernier (7) au moyen d'un dispositif chauffant (2) immergé dans ledit milieu (7).
