Abstract

The novel side auxiliary platform support provides a surface for standing or walking on at the side of a simple ladder erected against a support or a free-standing extendible multipurpose double ladder. The support can be folded out and folded away and has rails which can also be folded away. The invention also prevents the ladder from tipping or slipping in the case of a simple ladder or rocking in the case of an extended double ladder. The support is configured in such a way that the side auxiliary platform can be completely folded out and folded away on the side of a ladder on which it is mounted.
Wall running rollers are also provided on the front surfaces of the side auxiliary platform in order to make it easier to push an extendible simple ladder on which the side auxiliary platform is mounted up a wall. Integrated wall supports prevent a simple ladder from canting when the side auxiliary platform is folded out.

Description

Laterally assisting platform support The invention relates to a laterally assisting platform support in accordance With the preamble of claim 1, as is disclosed in EPA-0 045 140.
With known ladders, the ascent and descent from the roof, out of window openings or from other high-lying standing areas onto a leant-to ladder is not without risk. A person climbing, for example, from a flat roof onto a lean-to ladder in order to descend, has first of all to go right up to the roof edge in order to hold onto the protruding head end of the ladder ~.5 and then has to rotate through 180° so that the foot finds grip on a ladder rung. Only then can the descent begin.
The risks include the unsecured standizig on the roof edge, the holding onto the laterally slipping ladder (which then also has to be held onto) and the 1.80° body rotation in order to climb dawn the ladder backward. The risk of falling is therefore very high.
The object of the invezltion is to eliminate the dangerous points of known ladders, namely the standing on the roof edge, the lateral slipping of the ladder and a body rotation of 180°
in the falling region.
Accordixig to the invention, this object is achieved by a laterally assisting platform support as claimed in claim ,Advantageous refinements of the invention are described in the subclaims.

The laterally assisting platform support aGCOrding to the invex~.t~.on can be fitted retrospectively to every Conventional ladder. A standing area secured by railings is created next to the leant-to laddex d0.rectly in the falling region, and at the same time a means of securing the ladder against tilting and slipping is provided.
The invention is described in more detail below by means of an exemplary embodiment and reference to a drawing, in which 1. 0 Fig. 1 shows a laterally assisting platform support fitted to a ladder on both sides, Fig. 2 shows a ladder with a laterally assisting platform support during use on a roof, seen from the side, Fig. 3 shows a ladder with a laterally assisting platform support fitted on one side and a laterally assisting platform support folded in on one side, during use at a narrow window a0 opening, seen from the front, Fig. 4 shows a side view of a laterally assisting platform support fitted to a lean-to ladder and resting on a wall, Figs. 5, 6 and 'T show a front, side and plan view of an extended multipurpose double ladder with a fitted laterally assisting platform support as a self-supporting working p~.atfox~m.
Figs. 8 anal 9 snow a front and side view of a multipurpose double ladder with a retracted ladder and the laterally assisting platform support fitted and opened out, 8 'd 81~~'~N Wd90:ti OOOd '6Z'aeW
ess-aor s«-a eo~a ~s:~~ oo-ea-avw Fig. 10 shows a multipurpose double ladder which is completely pushed together and has a fitted, folded-in laterally assistizig platform support and folded-in supports and also a retracted and folded-in railing, and Fig. 11 shows an extended multipurpose double ladder being used as a lean-to ladder with the laterally assisting platform support opened out and having large wall running wheels, as it "moves over" obstacles on the wall.
At the two outersides of the ladder, supportir~g brackets (1) are fastened to the side rails. Displaceable arid lockable floor panels t2) are mounted on the supporting brackets (1).
One third of the length of the floor panel protrudes from the supporting brackets in the ladder direction and two thirds in the wall or roof direction. In the region of the two-thirds length of the floor panel is/are vne or more hinged struts (3) wha.ch are fastened in an articulated manner to the upper side-rail reg~.ons of the ladder and the longitudinal inner sides of the floor panels (2).
The supporting brackets (1) thus hold the f7.oor panel from the underside and the hinged stxwts from the upper side. This eli.minatee a rocking effect and achieves a stable support oz' suspension of the floor panel. In addition, with this design the floor panel can be displaced in the longitudinal direction, but at the same time can also be used safely as a support on a roo~ edge. Furthermore, an effective means of securing the ladder agaiz~st tilting and slipping has been produced. The floor panel razz be locked securely in every desired displacement position.
Cylindrical running rollers (4) are situated on the wall, side end side of the laterally assisting platform support (Fig. 1).
6 'd 8169'~N Wd90~ti OOOZ '6Zw EW
ess-aer s«-a ao d rs:r~ oo-az-avw Running rollers (5) which can be adjusted in all directions are likewise fitted to the upper railing.
With the cylinder and running rollers (4 and 5), displacement along walls is made possible with the laterally assisting platform support entirely fitted. Extendable cross beams (6) which run transversely to the longitudinal direction and axe equipped with adjustable space retainers and running rollers, are likewise situated on that end side of the laterally l0 assisting platform support which faces the wall.
In addition, rode ( 7 ) or cross beams ( 7) which can be di~:placed in the longitudinal and lateral, direction are mounted on the lowex outer sides of the laterally assisting platform support, which rods or crags beams are designed such that they are bent at the lower ends and such that they can be adjusted vertically. The advantage of these arose beams (6 amd 7) of bent, a displaceable and adjustab~.e design resides in the fact that an alignment in terms of height is produced in the support region and, in addition, an adjustable support with respect to the wall is produced.
For uses in restricted regions (for example bathraom/fnTC
window), a laterally assist~.ng platform support can be folded 2S in on the ladder or puekxed back completely "on site" and locked, so that only the ladder head and one laterally assisting platform support protrude into the window 4per~.ing.
The laterally assisting p~.atform guppart for ladders is suitable ~.n particular far fire-department rescue uses, in which untrained and unsure people have to be evacuated at window openings or from roofs.
