Abstract
La présente invention concerne un procédé d'essai qui se pratique sur une seule extrémité d'un tronc d'arbre gisant. La longueur du tronc étant connue, la rigidité et/ou les caractéristiques de résistance du tronc ou des billes à débiter de ce tronc peuvent être calculées par génération d'une onde sonore résultant d'un choc et par référence à des réflexions détectées. Un procédé préféré consiste à déterminer la fréquence fondamentale f0 rapportée à la vitesse V (vitesse des mouvements de compression longitudinaux le long du tronc) et à L (longueur du tronc), selon la formule V=2Lf0. De cette valeur V ou d'une fonction de V, un indicateur de rigidité et/ou de résistance peut être dérivé. Par exemple, le module d'élasticité (MOE) peut représenter cet indicateur et se déterminer par l'équation MOE= rho V<2>, rho étant la densité. Pour le bois vert gisant, rho peut être estimé à environ 1000 kg/m<3>.
