Abstract

Cette invention a trait à un implant pour disque vertébral (10) composé de deux parois latérales (24, 26) opposées et séparées de façon sensiblement parallèle par une paroi antérieure (20) et une paroi postérieure (22) afin de définir un espace intérieur (14). Les parois latérales (24, 26) définissent des courbes sensiblement elliptiques rejoignant la paroi antérieure et la paroi postérieure (20, 22). La paroi antérieure (20) est également cintrée tandis que la paroi postérieure (22) peut être cintrée ou droite. Des ouvertures ou des orifices (28) circulaires ou elliptiques peuvent être ménagés dans les parois. Les bords, supérieur et inférieur (16, 18), de l'implant possèdent un ensemble de crampons (19) se prolongeant jusqu'à reposer sur les vertèbres adjacentes. L'implant est fait d'un métal biocompatible tel que du titane ou un alliage de celui-ci. Le premier et le deuxième côté (24, 26) vont en se rétrécissant de la deuxième extrémité vers la première. L'espace intérieur renferme un bloc d'hydroxyapatite poreuse qui le remplit. L'hydroxyapatite poreuse aide la prothèse à s'intégrer dans la structure vertébrale en permettant à la substance osseuse de se développer dans les pores.
