Abstract
L'invention porte sur une coquille thermique (30) servant à la production d'un bain semi-solide de billettes comportant deux demi-coquilles symétriques (30a, 30b), présentant chacune une surface de transfert thermique (50) s'étendant entre une paire de bords longitudinaux (54a, 54b). Un mécanisme de vérins (32 ) place les surfaces de transfert thermique (50) en contact intime avec une cuve (20) contenant le métal en fusion afin d'effectuer un transfert thermique par conduction, les bords longitudinaux (54a, 54b) étant alors disposés sensiblement face à face et séparés l'un de l'autre. La coquille thermique (30) comporte plusieurs passages d'air de refroidissement (120, 122) servant à extraire des calories de la masse en fusion, et plusieurs éléments chauffants (132) servant à lui fournir des calories additionnelles. On peut ainsi régler la vitesse de refroidissement du métal en fusion entre environ 0,1 et 10 ·C/s en jouant sur le débit d'air de refroidissement et sur l'activation des éléments chauffants (132). Des tubulures (104, 106) placées de part et d'autre des coquilles (30) distribuent et dirigent le flux d'air de refroidissement.
