Abstract
L'invention se rapporte à un blindage en composite conçu pour absorber et dissiper l'énergie cinétique de projectiles animés d'une grande vitesse. Celui-ci comprend une couche interne unique de granules en céramique liés et maintenus en forme de plaque par un matériau élastique dans lequel ils sont substantiellement noyés de façon à être disposés en rangées et en colonnes espacées formant une couche interne dans laquelle le matériau renforcé et le blindage sont élastiques, et où une majorité des granules sont en contact direct avec six granules adjacents de la même couche de façon à empêcher efficacement le passage de projectiles dans les interstices. Lesdits granules se caractérisent par la présence de formes géométriques substantiellement régulières et d'un diamètre décroissant sur deux faces protubérantes principales opposées au corps conçues pour absorber l'impact. Le blindage représentent moins de 15 % de la longueur du substrat.
