Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé de production de nanotubes de carbone à paroi simple. Le procédé de l'invention consiste (a) à utiliser un chalumeau à plasma comprenant un tube à plasma pourvu d'une extrémité d'évacuation de plasma, (b) à acheminer un gaz inerte à travers le tube à plasma en vue de former un plasma principal, (c) à mettre une substance contenant du carbone et un catalyseur métallique en contact avec ce plasma principal au niveau de l'extrémité d'évacuation de plasma du tube à plasma de manière à former un plasma secondaire contenant des atomes ou des molécules de carbone ainsi que des atomes du catalyseur métallique, et (d) à condenser les atomes ou les molécules de carbone et les atomes du catalyseur métallique de sorte à former des nanotubes de carbone à paroi simple. Dans un autre mode de réalisation, les opérations (b) et (c) peuvent être réalisées par acheminement d'un gaz inerte et d'un catalyseur métallique inorganique à travers le tube à plasma en vue de former un plasma principal contenant des atomes du catalyseur métallique inorganique, et par mise en contact d'une substance contenant du carbone avec le plasma principal au niveau de l'extrémité d'évacuation de plasma du tube à plasma de façon à former un plasma secondaire contenant des atomes ou des molécules de carbone et les atomes de catalyseur métallique. L'invention concerne également un dispositif destiné à la mise en oeuvre du procédé susmentionné.
