Abstract

Dans une méthode d'amélioration de l'efficacité de l'extraction du bitume des sables bitumineux, la chaux CaO (ou Ca(OH)2) est mélangée aux sables bitumineux et à la boue avant ou pendant l'exécution des procédés d'extraction du bitume à base de boue. La chaux est introduite à des doses efficaces pour réduire l'attraction électrochimique entre les particules d'argile et le bitume dans la boue, ce qui contribue au détachement des particules d'argile des gouttelettes de bitume dans la boue liquide. Les acides asphaltiques solubles dans l'eau formés à l'interface bitume-eau agissent comme des surfactants et éliminent l'activité des ions Ca2+ et Mg2+ liant les particules d'argile et le bitume ensemble. Le détachement des particules d'argile favorise la fixation de bulles d'air aux gouttelettes de bitume, formant ainsi une mousse riche en bitume qui flottera à la surface de la boue liquide-minerai, facilitant ainsi la récupération du bitume.
