Abstract

La présente invention concerne un procédé de production d'hydroxyde de sodium à partir du flux d'eaux résiduaires du processus de production de pâte fibreuse, ledit flux comprenant un déchet organique auquel est lié du sodium. Selon le procédé de la présente invention, le flux d'eaux résiduaires est concentré puis brûlé dans des conditions oxydantes afin de décomposer le déchet organique et les composés sodium. Selon la présente invention, du borate ou un composé qui forme du borate, est ajouté au flux d'eaux résiduaires, après quoi les composés sodium sont portés à une réaction d'auto-caustification. La réaction s'effectue à une température qui est suffisamment élevée pour évaporer le sodium, et le sodium est principalement sous forme d'oxyde. La conversion, au moins partielle, du carbonate de sodium en hydroxyde de sodium, selon la présente invention, améliore l'aptitude à l'emploi de l'alkali récupéré, par exemple, à l'aide du procédé Alrec qui, à son tour, fait baisser les coûts des produits chimiques et réduit la consommation d'énergie nécessaire au défibrage des copeaux, suite à l'imprégnation.
