Abstract

Dans un procédé pour traiter des résidus fins mûrs (RFM) produits par des procédés à base de bouillie minerai-eau pour l’extraction de bitume à partir de minerai de sables bitumineux, les RFM sont traités à la chaux sous la forme de chaux vive (c’est-à-dire, oxyde de calcium) et/ou chaux éteinte (c’est-à-dire, hydroxyde de calcium 5). Ce traitement améliore les caractéristiques de déshydratation des RFM en augmentant la limite d’élasticité des RFM et en réduisant la plasticité des RFM, ainsi qu’en réduisant l’attraction de particules d’argile dans les RFM à l’eau. Le traitement des RFM à la chaux améliore également la chimie de la fraction aqueuse des RFM, ce qui les rend plus facilement adaptés pour le recyclage au procédé d’extraction de bitume.
