La présente invention concerne : un rat de modèle du syndrome de Down caractérisé en ce qu'un gène de rat homologue à au moins un gène situé sur le chromosome humain (21) ou son fragment est une trisomie et peut être transmis à son descendant, ou un rat de modèle du syndrome de Down caractérisé en ce qu'un chromosome de rat exogène qui porte le chromosome humain (21) ou son fragment ou qui porte un gène de rat homologue au chromosome humain (21) ou son fragment, ou un fragment dudit chromosome de rat exogène est incorporé, et au moins un gène situé sur le chromosome humain (21) ou son fragment ou ledit chromosome de rat exogène ou son fragment et un gène de rat endogène homologue audit gène conjointement forment une trisomie et peuvent être transmis à un descendant ; et un procédé de production dudit rat de modèle du syndrome de Down.
