Abstract

Presse-étoupe et cartouche d'étanchéité servant à rendre étanche l'extrémité d'une tige rotative. Le presse-étoupe comprend un manchon conçu pour recevoir de manière concentrique une partie de la tige à travers celui-ci et un tuyau tubulaire disposé de manière concentrique à l'intérieur du manchon, la tige passant généralement de façon concentrique à travers le tuyau, le tuyau étant en relation d'espacement annulaire avec le manchon et la tige. Un ou plusieurs joints annulaires sont disposés entre le tuyau et le manchon pour empêcher l'écoulement de fluides de puits dans l'espace annulaire entre le manchon et le tuyau. Une chambre à fluide annulaire est définie entre le manchon et le tuyau sous les joints annulaires. Un ou plusieurs joints unidirectionnels sont disposés au-dessous de la chambre à fluide et sont configurés pour permettre un écoulement de fluide dans la chambre à fluide. Pendant le fonctionnement normal, la chambre à fluide est pressurisée pour appliquer une pression au joint ou aux joints annulaires, et la pression de la chambre à fluide est modifiée en réponse à une pression de fluide de puits.
