Description

Process for the preparation of a yellow azo dye. A yellow azo dye with valuable properties is obtained when diazo-fated p-phenyldiiamine-2-6-disulfonic acid is coupled with salicylic acid. This dye is a gray-yellow to violet powder that dissolves easily in water and, when printed on cotton with chrome acetate, produces greenish yellow tones of great clarity and very good soap and chlorine resistance.

This dye is also suitable for the manufacture of clear yellow lacquer colors which, with methylene blue, give lively green tones of good lightfastness.

<I> Example: </I> <B> 29.0 </B> parts by weight of the monosodium salt of p-phenylenediamine-2-6-disulfonic acid are dissolved in 120 parts by weight of water, with <B> 15 </B> Ge important. Hydrochloric acid of <B> 30 </B>% was added and cooled to <B> 10 '</B> with ice. A solution of <B> 6.9 </B> parts by weight of sodium nitrite in <B> 50 </B> parts by weight of water is added; the separated acid goes into solution; immediately afterwards the diazo compound separates out in yellowish white leaflets.

A cold solution of 14.0 parts by weight of salicylic acid in <B> 100 </B> parts by weight of water and the necessary amount of sodium hydroxide is added to this paste, and the mixture is cooled to <B> 0 '</B> with ice and allow a <B> 10 </B> '/ o solution of <B> 10 </B> parts by weight of caustic soda to flow in over the course of an hour while stirring. The mixture is left to stir for a few hours and then concentrated hydrochloric acid is added until the Congo is clearly blue in color, indicating the presence of free hydrochloric acid.

The dye looks shed; it is suctioned off and dried. It represents <B> depending </B> the amount of free hydrochloric acid with which it was dried, a yellow or dark purple powder that easily dissolves in water with a yellow color.
