Helical hearth furnace. The present invention relates to a helical hearth furnace of the type comprising a central shaft with cable arms which, in order to mix and push the material to be treated along the hearth, can be driven in a reciprocating helical movement of great magnitude. amplitude and simultaneously an alternating helical movement of small amplitude and an alternating rectilinear motion parallel to its axis. This furnace is characterized in that, in order to produce the first movement, said shaft, threaded at the pitch of the sole and passing through a nut prevented from rotating, is driven in rotation by a bare rotating platform, which carries an electric motor intended to produce the other two movements.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial elevational view thereof with part in section; Fig. 2 is a plan, seen from above; Figures, '3 and 4 show details. The furnace F, with a helical hearth not shown, and intended for example for the roasting of ore, comprises a central shaft 1 carrying cable arms 2 2 'intended to push from bottom to top, on the helical hearth, the material to be treated. and at the same time to the arm ser. The shaft 1 is extended outside the furnace by a cylinder 3 having a thread 29 whose pitch is equal to that of the helical hearth.
At its lower part, the cylinder 3 passes through a nut 28 which, also at its lower part, carries two dowels 30 which can slide in vertical guides 31 .; these are carried by a fixed frame 4 which rests on the oven. In this way, the nut 28 can rise or fall but is prevented from turning. 5 is a rotating platform on top of the frame 4 and actuated for this purpose by a worm 7 meshing with a helical toothing 6, formed at the periphery of the platform. This carries an electric motor 8 whose shaft actuates, by an endless screw, a helical wheel 9 rotating in the housing 10 and fixed to the shaft 11.
This rotates in bearings 12 and 18 carried by the platform 5. At one of its ends, the shaft 11 is provided with a crank plate, the button 17 of which, in position adjustable relative to the plate, is connected to a connecting rod 15 itself connected to a collar 18 integral with two tabs 19 19 '; these can slide freely in two grooves 20, diametrically opposed, formed in le.cylindre 3, parallel to the axis thereof.
When the platform 5 rotates, it drags the shaft 11 and consequently the connecting rod 15 and the collar 18 in its movement and thus communicates its rotation to the cylinder 3 which is screwed or unscrewed in the nut 28. As a result, the raking arms go up or down all along the helical sole.
But, at the same time as the platform 5 turns on itself, the shaft 11 actuated by the motor 8 rotates on its axis and, by means of the crank plate 14, of the connecting rod 15 and of the collar 18. , common to cylinder 3, in addition to the above-mentioned helical movement, another alternating helical movement of small amplitude, which contributes to the mixing of the material to be treated.
24 (see fig. 3 and 4) is a rocker mounted rotatably at 25 under the platform 5 and provided with journals 26 engaged in a collar 27 mounted on the nut 28. At its other end, the rocker carries a box 43 in which is placed a tree 23.
This is connected, on the one hand, to the lower end of the rod 22 of an eccentric 21 fixed to the shaft 11 and, on the other hand, to a rod 39 articulated on a lever 40 rotating at 25 on the platform. When the lever 40 is in the position shown in fig.4, the shaft 23 is engaged in the narrow part of the box 43. It follows that, when the shaft 11 rotates, the eccentric 21 communicates to the rocks 24 an oscillating movement around the shaft 25; the rocker, accordingly; communicates to the nut 27 and, consequently; at the shaft 1, a reciprocating recti line movement directed along the axis of this shaft, a movement which contributes to the mixing of the material to be treated.
The screw 7 controlling the platform 5 is mounted on a shaft 32 on which are mounted idly two drive pulleys 33 and 34 rotating in opposite directions; the lever 35, controlled by the rod 36, engages the shaft 32, either with the pulley 33 or with the pulley 34. The lever 35 is automatically controlled by stops 37 and 38 which can be fixed in the desired position on the platform 5. When the cylinder 3 has unscrewed from the nut 28, that is to say when the weaver arms have risen along the helical hearth, one of the abovementioned stops moves the lever 35 in such a way. that the screw 7 starts to turn in the opposite direction.
The cylinder 3 is then screwed into the nut 28 and the ramming arms return to their starting position while descending along the sole. It is advantageous that, in this movement of the cente, they pass over the material to be treated, lying on the sole, and do not penetrate into it. For this purpose, the cylinder 3 is provided with a flange 42 which can act on the stops of a rod 41. When the cylinder dre 3 reaches the top of its upward stroke, the flange 42 raises the rod 41, which causes the cylinder to oscillate. the lever 40 from left to right, around the shaft 25. The rod 39 is pulled to the left and the shaft 23, moved in the widened part of the box 43.
It follows that, when the eccentric 21. operates its upward stroke, it will lift the shaft 23 without driving the lever 24, the widened part of the box being high enough so that the shaft 23 can perform freely, in that here, all its ascending course. It is only in the downward stroke of the eccentric 21 that the shaft 23 will come into contact with the rocker 24 thus maintaining the latter in an almost continuous manner, thanks to the speed of the shaft. 11, in the position shown in fig. 1. The result of this is that the raking arms remain held above the material to be treated lying on the sole. At the bottom of the stroke of cylinder 3, the flange 42 acts.
again on the rod 41 which brings the lever 40 to its original position.
