A titre d'exemple plusieurs formes d'exé cution du dispositif suivant l'invention sont décrites ci-dessous et représentées aux des sins annexés dans lesquels: La fig. 1 représente schématiquement un dispositif simplifié destinéà faciliter la com- p re 'h ension de l'invention; La fig. 2 est une coupe axiale d'une pre mière forme d'exécution;
Le fonctionnement de ce dispositif est le suivant: pendant la période de compression du moteur, la soupape3 se soulève et le réservoir 2 se remplit d'airà la même pres sion que le cylindre moteur1; en fin de compression, le réservoir 2 reçoit par4 une quantitô de combustible qui s'enfiarnme spon tanément pour brûler suivant le régimeà explosion; la soupape3 se ferme automa tiquement;

Le fonctionnement de ce dispositif est le suivant: Pendant la compression l'aiguille17 est soulevée par la came19, la compression s'exerce dans le réservoir d'injection 12- en fin de compression l'aiguille est fermée et la pompe reliéeà 13 introduit une quantité de combustible dans 12 en le dirigeant sur ja paroi dece réservoir commune avec la cham bre de combustion11 du moteur et non re froidie; la combustion a lieu spontanément suivant le régimeà explosion dans le réser voir 12;
Les fig. 3 et 4 représentent *une forme d'exécution s'appliquantà la même catégorie de moteurs avec cette différence qu'une seule pompe alimenteà la fois en combustible le réservoir d'injection et la soupape d'injection;
le refoulement de cette pompe se fait au moment où l'injection doit se produire dans le réservoir 24 et le combustible destiné an moteur'reste cri dépôt dans les conduits28, 40 et 41 de la soupape d'injection, le conduit 41 est en supplément des dispositifs du système précédent;

Le refoulement de cette pompe se fait au moment de l'injection dans le réservoir65 et le combustible destiné au moteur reste en dépôt danh la chambre80' communiquant par 2 conduits81, 82 avec l'entrée et la partie rétrécie du canal d'injec tion qui est convergent-divergent;
Method and device for injecting fuel into internal combustion engines. The present invention relates to a method and to a fuel injection device in internal combustion engines. This method and this device provide the advantage of precise operation, such as is encountered in injection valves of known type with gas current, all this) making it possible to eliminate the compressor. air supply or the compressed air tank hitherto required by these injection valves.
The process consists in introducing into an auxiliary reservoir air from the compression in the. cylinder and a quantity of fuel which ignites spontaneously, and then to use the hot pressurized gas thus obtained as the fluid for injecting fuel into the cylinder of the engine by means of of an injection valve.
The device for carrying out the method comprises a reservoir which can be placed in communication intermittently with the compression chamber of the engine, a closure device which can close the communication between the. tank and cylinder, a device for injecting fuel into the tank, a needle injection valve supplied with fuel and receiving the hot gases which are used for the injection, behind the needle seat, and an injection needle control maintaining open communication between the reservoir and the cylinder during the exhaust period.
A by way of example, several embodiments of the device according to the invention are described below and shown in the appended sins in which : FIG. 1 schematically represents a simplified device intended to facilitate the understanding of the invention; Fig. 2 is an axial section of a first embodiment;

In fig. 1, at 1 is the engine compression chamber; 2 is the injection gas tank; 3 an automatic shutter (for example a sounding valve formed by a ball); 4 a pump pipe supplying fuel to tank 2 at the end of compression; 5 a communication pipe between tank 2 and the injection valve 6 of the engine; 6 the injection valve to the needle of the engine; 7 a fuel supply pipe from the injection valve < B> 6; 8 the needle of the valve 6; 9 the control of the needle 8; 10 the command carne (the needle S.
The operation of this device is as follows: during the compression period of the engine, the valve 3 is raised and the tank 2 is filled with air at the same pressure that the engine cylinder 1; at the end of compression, the tank 2 receives by4 a quantity of fuel which ignites spontaneously to burn according to the to explosion speed; valve 3 closes automatically;
when the pressure is maximum in the reservoir 2, the needle 8 moved away from its seat by the command 9 and the cam 10, lets the hot and compressed gases from tank 2 discharge into the cylinder through pipe 5 ; simultaneously, the pump connected to the injection valve delivers the fuel load through pipe 7; at the outlet of the latter, the fuel is projected and pul- pumped into the cylinder by the stream of hot gases leaving the injection valve.
The gases in tank 2 are not distracted from the machine cycle, the needle 8 remaining raised from the start of the injection until the end of the exhaust period, to allow after the injection the discharge of tank 2 during expansion and its emptying during exhaust. The cam 10 is of suitable profile to allow the lifting of the needle 8 in this manner.
The combustion in the cylinder 1 takes place according to an operating regime or constant pressure, internal depending on the flow of the injection valve of injection gas and fuel. , - the ignition of this fuel in the engine compression chamber takes place by a heated wall or by the compression temperature, that is to say according to the modes used in the engines where the introduction of fuel takes place at the end of compression.
Fig. 2 relates to an embodiment of the invention applied to an engine in which the fuel is ignited by wall hot, engine usually de- signed by the name of Semi-Diesel.
In this device, a first pump supplies the injection tank and a second. xth pump supplies the injection valve. The shutter establishing the communication between the engine cylinder and the reservoir is constituted by the needle of the injection valve. 11 is the cylinder head of the engine, ll 'the hot wall of the chamber of compression (heated at the start and not cooled during operation), 12 the injection tank, 13 the fuel injection channel in the tank 12, 14 a sounding ball located between 4 and the pump, 15 the wedge-bustible injection valve in the engine,
16 a communication pipe between the valve chamber 15 and the reservoir 12, 17 the needle of the valve controlled by the rocker 18 receiving its movement from the rod 18 ' lifted by the roller 18 ", itself controlled by the cam 19; the needle 17 is returned to its seat by a spring IV; 20 is the needle chamber, 20 'the gas outlet duct coming from the injection tank 12; 21 is the fuel inlet of the pump of the valve 15; 21 'is a pipe bringing the fuel into the valve to l 'orifice 21 "; 21 "'is a retaining ball placed on the duct 21'.
The operation of this device is as follows : During compression the needle 17 is lifted by the cam 19, the compression is exerted in the injection tank 12 - at the end of the compression, the needle is closed and the pump connected to 13 introduces a quantity of fuel into 12 by directing it on the wall of this tank shared with the combustion chamber 11 of the engine and not cooled; combustion takes place spontaneously according to the to explosion regime in the tank see 12;
after a very short time when the pressure is maximum in the reservoir 12 the needle 17 is lifted by the cam 19 and simultaneously the pump of the valve 15 < / B> delivers the fuel, through Port 21 "; the gases from tank 12 leaving through nozzle 20 'spray the fuel arriving through channel 21" and direct it onto the hot wall It ' where it ignites and burns according to the regime at explosion on at constant pressure on at an intermediate regime depending on whether , the pump of the valve 15 starts its charge instantly or in a longer time.
The 17 needle remains open during the expansion and the hot gases evacuate the tank see 12; at the end of the exhaust, burnt gases remain in 12 at the same pressure as in the engine cylinder. During the compression period, pure air mixed with the residual gases is compressed in the tank 12 and the cycle begins again; the needle 17 remains open from the start of the injection until the end of the following compression : this result is obtained by the profile of the cam 19 shown in fig. 2.
Figs. 3 and 4 represent * an embodiment applying to the same category of motors with the difference that a single pump supplies to both fuel the injection tank and the injection valve;
the delivery of this pump is done at the moment when the injection must take place in the tank 24 and the fuel intended for the engine remains deposit in the conduits 28, 40 and 41 of the valve of injection, the pipe 41 is in addition to the devices of the previous system;
at the time of injection the core gases exit through 38, the gas pressure is exerted in 41, causes the fuel to exit through 40 and the latter is atomized by the gaseous stream being 38. Depending on the diameter of the orifice 40, the fuel is introduced instantaneously or slowly, which corresponds to the various combustion regimes of the cycles carried out in the engines (for all that is not repeated is the same arrangement and the same operation as for the previous application).
Figs. 5 and 6 relate to an embodiment of the invention applied to an engine in which the The fuel is ignited by the temperature of the com pression (diesel type engine).
In this embodiment, the injection tank is supplied with fuel by means of a pump and the engine injection valve by means of a second pump.
In these figures, 42 is the compression chamber of the engine, 43 the wlasse of the engine, 44 the engine piston, 45 the injection tank, 46 the fuel inlet port in this tank, 47 a ball # retaining, 48 the piping connecting 46 to -its fuel pump, 49 the engine injection valve, 50 the needle injection, 51 the bottom control roller of 50, 52 the roller of 51, 53 the cam control of the needle, 54 the annular chamber.
of the needle still in communication via the pipe, 55 with the injection tank 45, 56 the outlet pipe for the fuel and the injection gases in the cylinder , 57 the conduit connecting the second to fuel pump to the engine injection valve, 58 the conduit fuel descent into the annular chamber of the injector needle 50 , 59 a retaining ball on the fuel pipe, 60 </ B> a retaining ball forming an automatic shutter between the injection tank 45 and the cylinder, 61 the communication duct open or closed by 60. </ B>
The operation of this device is as follows.
During compression, the ball 60 is lifted automatically and the reservoir 45 is, at the end of compression, filled with residual gases and pure air at the same pressure as in the cylinder, the pump connected to 46 sends a quantity of fuel to the tank 45 to obtain combustion of the mixture according to the explosion regime, the ball 60 closes automatically the hole 61. When the pressure is at its maximum value in the injection tank 45,
the needle 50 of the injector 49 is lifted by its cam 53 and the fuel supplied before injection through the pipe 58 into the annular chamber 54, is expelled into the engine cylinder by the gases from tank 45 arriving through the terie pipe 55 into chamber 54, above the fuel; the latter burns in the cylinder according to the regime at constant pressure, or according to any of the speeds of the internal combustion machines. The flow rate of the needle and the 56 hole (the shape of which is determined for the best flow) regulates the duration of the fuel introduction period.
As in all engines, the amount of fuel varies with the load under any tuning mode. After the injection, the, expansion takes place in the engine cylinder, the needle 50 remains raised during the periods of expansion and exhaust, the gases remaining in the injection tank 45 after the injection participate in the expansion, and in the exhaust period evacuates the tank 45; during the intake period the valve 49 is closed and the to fuel pump fills the annular chamber 54 with fuel without the need for a large discharge pressure since the pressure in 54 is close to atmospheric pressure, then compression takes place and the cycle begins again.
Everything that has been said for this embodiment is true for a 4 or 2 stroke cycle. Figs. 7 and 8 represent another embodiment applied to the same category of engine, with the difference that a single pump supplies fuel the injection tank 65 and the injection valve 69 of the cylinder.
This pump is discharged at the time of injection into the 65 tank and the fuel intended for the engine remains in deposit in the 80 ' chamber communicating by 2 conduits < B> 81, 82 with the entrance and the narrowed part of the injection channel which is convergent-divergent;
at the time of injection, the hot gas pressure of 65 is communicated through the pipe 81 to the upper surface of the fuel in the chamber 80 '</ B > at the same time that the gas flow takes place in the pipe 77, the lower part of the fuel of the 80 ' chamber communicates with 77 through pipe 82 in a region where the pressure is less than at the entrance of pipe 81; the difference from pressure exerted at the upper part and at the lower part of the fuel causes it to exit through 82 in 77, oft it is pulverized and drawn into the cylinder.
Depending on the diainer of 77 and 82, the fuel introduction time varies and makes it possible to obtain combustion in the cylinder at different speeds.
Communication between the injection tank. 65 and the motor is established by the needle 70 of the valve 69, this needle remains lifted from the start of the injection until the end. next compression.
For all the rest of this device, we find the same arrangements and the same operation as for the previous application.
Figs. 9 to 15 relate to an embodiment of the invention applied to a diesel engine. It differs from the previous two and) that the fuel is supplied without a pump for the tank and for the engine injection valve ; the latter is of the type patented in France by the applicant under NI, 497.092, of 15 March 1919. The injection valve 94 comprises (fig. 9) </ B> a needle 95 placed in the pipe 96 for the inlet of the injection gas, the end of which 102 has a convergent-divergent shape, and a needle 103 placed in the 107 fuel inlet pipe.
The fuel that the needle 103 lets out during its lifting goes into a holding tank 108 communicating through 2 conduits, upper 109 and lower 110, with the converging-diverging duct so that when the injection needle is lifted the fuel is projected into the current under the influence of the pressure difference prevailing in the parts of the divergent cover where the conduits 109 and 110. open.
The fuel supply to the 86 injection reservoir is effected by a 89 needle allowing a quantity of fuel to flow into this reservoir. The fuel is loaded a few grams above this needle 89. It is controlled (fig. 11 and 12) by the lever 90 resting its ga let 91 on the appropriate cam of profile 92 (fig. 13). The fuel, sent to the injection tank 86 to the air intake period in the engine, ignites automatically as soon as the compression temperature becomes sufficient.
The communication between the reservoir 86 and the engine cylinder is made by the valve 94 of the cylinder and the piping 97. The needle 95 of injection of the engine is raised by the appropriate profile cam 100 (fig. 14), from the start of the injection until the end of compression, before the load ignites in the injection tank 86. The valve 94 is charged with fuel by a tank, loaded of a few grams, in a period- period in which the pressure in the cylinder is close to the atmospheric pressure (air intake period) the fuel intake needle 103 is controlled by the cam of the appropriate profile 106 (fig. 15)
. The 100 and 106 cams are at variable profile and the with camshaft moves longitudinally for adjustment as indicated in French patent 497.092. The injection needle 95 constitutes the obturator between the injection reservoir 86 and the cylinder; this needle lifted from the start of injection until the end of compression, as stated above, allows the injection tank, after injection, to participate in the relaxation, to evacuate its burnt gases during the exhaust period and to fill with air during the compression period.
The application to diesel engines of this embodiment of the invention makes it possible, with relatively low complexity, to eliminate in these engines the injection compressor and the fuel pumps.
