Description
Process for the preparation of a mercury salt of the complex bismuthylgallic acid. It has been found that a complex bismuth compound of gallic acid comes together with mercury salts to form a compound which is to be regarded as the mercury salt of the complex bismuthyl gallic acid.
The preparation of the new compound can be done in such a way that the complex bismuthylgallic acid salts in the form of its alkali, which can be obtained by adding gallic acid or its alkali salts to a solution of a bismuth salt containing excess mineral acid and adding water to Lytic deposition of the bismuth salt brings about, is set with salts of mercury.
The preparation is said to be used in the treatment of syphilis. The bismuth and mercury content of the preparation varies according to the amount of components used. Its toxicity is lower than that of the bismuth-free compounds with the same mercury content; on the other hand, in animal experiments, the therapeutic effect of bismuth is enhanced by the mercury component.
Example: 4.1 g of alkaline gallic acid bismuth are dissolved in 15 cm 'water and 10 cm' double normal sodium hydroxide solution and combined with a solution of 2.7 g of mercury chloride in 50 cm 'of water. When poured into alcohol, a brownish-red precipitate separates out which, after drying, contains 31.8% mercury and 81.7% bismuth. The substance is soluble in caustic soda, so it contains both bismuth and mercury in masked form.
