Description
Process for the production of impregnated cork stone. The production of impregnated cork stone slabs has been carried out in several operations in the following order: 1. Grinding the cork to obtain pieces of certain dimensions.
2. Melting the binder (mostly pitch).
3. Mixing the cork pellets with the molten binder.
4. Manufacture of the cork panels by pressing the mixture, in molds, until it is completely solid.
The third operation was difficult to perform if you wanted to get a uniform substance because of the stickiness of the binder. Furthermore, a large amount of the latter was absorbed by cork scrap, thereby increasing the density and also the thermal conductivity of the cork panels.
The present invention now makes it possible to achieve a completely uniform product which contains a minimum of binder, and thereby to reduce the density of the product obtained and to increase the insulating power.
The cork is expediently in the shredded state in a container which is in a. combined rotational movement is brought. When the container is sufficiently heated, the pitch or other solid binder is placed in it in a finely divided state. _ The binding agent melts under the influence of temperature, impregnates the cork and the result is a perfectly uniform product which is then subjected to the operation.
On the one hand, the temperatures used must not be so high that the cork is charred, but they must be high enough to melt the binding agent.
In order to provide the cork with the thinnest possible impregnation layer, the impregnation agent is advantageously added to the cork in powder form.
