Sur les dessins annexés, -donnés à, titre d'exemple: La fig. 1 est une vue partielle de l'en semble d'une forme d'exécution de l'objet de l'invention; nLa fig. la est un plan partiel -de la- fig. 1; La fig. 2 est une vue de côté @de la fig. 1.; La fig. 3 est une coupe longitudinale ver ticale ,de détail, à plus grande échelle, qui montre une partie du transporteur;

Apparatus for loading matchstick magazines in an upright position. In the treatment of matchsticks, a device is first of all necessary to "dress" the matchsticks, that is to say to place them all parallel to each other, before be able to introduce them suitably into the distribution shops of matchmaking machines, where the sticks are collected to be dipped in the flammable paste.
Such training devices are well known; however, certain difficulties arise with regard to the elimination of manual labor in the transport of upright logs, the main one: difficulty being to: maintain the condition,> upright "of the logs during transport, if this This is done by a purely mechanical route The object of the present invention is to avoid this difficulty.
The device which is the object has the particularity -that it comprises a positive device to draw up or bring the logs in a position parallel to their exit from a hopper and a mobile conveyor to receive the upright logs, to transport them. from the device to the magazines, and unload them there, this conveyor being arranged in such a way with respect to the magazines that it does not allow the logs, when discharged into them, to fall over a considerably greater distance to the length of the logs, in order to maintain the condition: upright of the latter.
In the accompanying drawings, given by way of example: FIG. 1 is a partial view of the assembly of an embodiment of the object of the invention; nFig. 1a is a partial plan -of FIG. 1; Fig. 2 is a side view of FIG. 1 .; Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section, in detail, on a larger scale, showing part of the conveyor;
Fig. 4 is a plan drawn on a larger scale, of the device for straightening logs coming out of a hopper; Fig. 5 is a section taken along line 5-5 of FIG. 4; Fig. ô is a vertical section through a variant of this device for dressing the logs; Figs. 7, 8 and-9 -show some details.
The sticks are introduced into a hopper a in some way. The positive say to be drawn up represented on the fi-. 1, 4 and 5 comprises a drop box which contains several pushers animated with a vertical reciprocating movement and arranged to lift, during their upward movement, the mass of logs in the hopper and to lower the sticks in several vertical cells, which the said drop box comprises. These cells have dimensions such that they allow the sticks to pass through them only with one of their forward ends.
In the special construction shown, the rectangular drop box-a 'is provided with three longitudinal plates which constitute partitions a2 <I> a' a '</I> with a bevelled upper edge (fig. 4 and 5). The central partition c 'is fixed to the end walls of the drop box; it is a little higher than the other partitions, <B> <I> d to, </I> </B> which are movable to form the aforementioned pushers and are supported at their ends by pivots which pass through slots verticals made in the end walls of the drop box and by sliders guided in these slots.
The caulisseaux a "are connected, by: connecting rods a '(fig. 1 and - 2), to crank knobs of plates b fixed on a shaft b'. A crank shaft b2 gives said shaft b1 a lateral oscillation movement at an angle the amplitude of which is adjustable by varying the position of the pivot of the connecting rod b 'in a slot in the lever b "fixed on the shaft b', this variation being able to be effected by means of a screw b ' (fig. 2).
Metal sheet troughs c with a <B> U </B> cross section are riveted, from each side, to each partition a2 <I> a '</I> a' as well as to the walls of the drop box al . The walls of the troughs c form transverse partitions in the longitudinal compartments, formed by the longitudinal partitions a2 <I> a 'a'. </I> These troughs fit into each other in the manner indicated in fig. 4.
When the mechanism b-bl which has just been described, prints a vertical alternative e-ment to the movable partitions a2 and a4, alternating transverse partitions rise and fall in each longitudinal compartment, while the others remain at rest.
As shown in. fig. 5, the upper edges of the transverse partitions formed by the troughs fixed to the partitions <I> a a '</I> are inclined downwards from the longitudinal partitions a' 'a4 which support them, while the upper edges of the transverse partitions formed by the fixed troughs are inclined downwards in the opposite direction.
We see that during. each stroke of the partition a- or a 'upwards, the upper part of this partition and the transverse partitions movable with it, tend to push the logs towards the other side of the drop box; it follows that the mass of logs is animated by a continual oscillatory or vibratory movement which favors their introduction into the compartments formed in the box, of fall through the various partitions, this action being aided by the edges inclined movable transverse partitions and, likewise, during the return of the partition a2 or a ',
by the inclined edges of the fixed transverse partitions. The dimensions of each of the compartments of the drop box are such that a log can only descend along the compartment with one of its ends considerably lower than the other.
Below the, drop box al is provided an inclined apron d composed of a number of parallel troughs which receive the logs to. their exit - from the compartments of the drop box with one of their ends - in front. The logs descend along the .auges, sliding, and pass into the boxes of a mobile conveyor with endless chain e which will be described. In these boxes, the sticks are placed, in short, parallel to each other thanks to. the way they were trained.

The purpose of this provision is to allow the fall or discharge of dust and fragments or waste contained in boxes loaded with logs and which can escape through the free spaces between the brackets themselves and between these squared and cheeks h3.
This escape of the waste and the final dres sage of the logs in the boxes of the conveyor are facilitated by vertical and horizontal vibratory movements with which the conveyor is animated. These two movements of the transporter are derived from the same eccentric shaft i shown in figs. 7 and S (however not on the same scale).
The shaft k (fig. 1) controlled by pulling a control shaft (not shown) by the belt k ', actuates the chain sprocket <B> f </B> by means of the worm gear endless 1c2 and, by means of the gear 1c3, the crankshaft b2, shaft already mentioned, which is at the left end of fig. 1. At the right end, shaft 1c also drives eccentric shaft i by means of reduction gear 1c4.
Referring to fig. 8, an eccentric i 'provided at an appropriate point on the shaft i rotates in a bearing i2 supported by a lever i3 which, at one of its ends, is articulated to an oscillating connecting rod i4 mounted on the device frame; at its other end, this lever i3 engages below the bottom key plate h2. By this means, a constant vertical vibration of short amplitude is imprinted on the slide.
A horizontal vibration is communicated to the conveyor by a mechanism which also serves to vibrate the magazines m (fig. 1 and 7). A second eccentric <I> i '</I> of the shaft i rotates in a bearing <I> n </I> supported by the bars n' which connect it to a second bearing n. This revolves around a short shaft n3 supported by consoles W (fig. 7) which protrude from the cast iron part g. This piece of cast iron can move on the plate x and comprises parts constituting the mouth .de filling stores m.
The upper part of the cast iron part y connects to the plate the 'of the slideway h and its parts constituting the mouth of the magazines m are located under pre-seen openings PIS in the plate h2. The walls m3 of each store m are suspended from bolts m ° supported by the cast iron part g. In this way, the vibration of the No. 3 shaft is communicated to both the conveyor and the stores as well.
The vibration of the walls mg of the stores m makes it possible to eliminate the use of the weight acting on the sticks, a weight which was applied in the machines to 'make the matches, -used until now. This vibration of the parais ni 'magazines is due to the fact that they are connected to the oscillating bearing 7t which is part of the. ordinary match making machine.
It emerges from the above that the transport boxes of the conveyor are filled consecutively with a greater or lesser number of the upright logs while the latter pass in front of the inclined apron d, and that the logs are subsequently erected - and finally in the boxes of the conveyor by the constant vibration of the slide 1a and, consequently, of the chain conveyor.
Since it is to be expected that the boxes of this will fill more than is desirable, a rotating brush o (fi-. 1) actuated from the shaft k- by means of a belt o1. This brush removes the excess of the logs from each box of the conveyor and passes them in a corridor (not shown) where they are collected bound by a conveyor which brings them back to the hopper cï.
After passing in front of the brush o, the carrier boxes are ready to be <B> un- </B> loaded into the in magazines, two of which are shown in this example. As far as this discharge is concerned, care must be taken first and foremost to ensure that the sticks, erected, fall over a distance not appreciably exceeding the length of a log, before they come to logor into the store.
To achieve this goal, the speed at which the boxes from the conveyor are unloaded is adjusted relative to. the speed at which the logs are withdrawn from the magazines so that <B> the </B> level of the logs remains, in short, constant at the desired distance from the conveyor, or else the logs constantly fill the magazines until at the edge of their upper opening being at the desired distance from the conveyor.
Referring to the. fig. 3, each square g turns, during its passage over the mouth of the store m, around its spindle e ', and the sticks which it takes prisoner with the following square are unloaded. In order to <B> </B> make this unloading action more constrained, the g brackets can be combined with an appropriate tilting mechanism.
So that, in the case shown, the transporter can supply the two magazines m shown, means (the control are provided to empty each second box or even order boxes only in the first store 7n, while the other boxes or boxes of odd order remain full, passing over it, to be -discharged -in the second ma gasin 7n.
These control means shown in FIG. 3 include an endless chain p, suitably dée and free to walk on pulleys q rq 'which are mounted on consoles supported by a bar r (Fig. 1). Some pairs of chain link flanges are constructed to form fingers pl? 7y, having an engagement opening p3 between them; the distance between two consecutive openings p <B>:> </B> corresponds to the distance between the squares g of even order, for example.
As there is always a number of these brackets g engaged with a number of the openings p3 (as shown in fig. 3), the chain p travels at the same speed as the conveyor. When a pair of fingers walks on the pulley q, the fingers move away from them a little; then, they approach again at the moment when an odd-numbered square g arrives under the shaft of the pulley q.
As a result, the bracket <I> g </I> engages in the corresponding opening and that it is thus prevented from tilting when it arrives at the first or opening made in the base plate h ':
it is therefore taken forward and tilts only when it arrives at the second store, where it is no longer retained by the chain p. The brackets g of even order do not engage with the chain p, but each of them is tilted by the action of a weak spring p ', above the first magazine, so that they fall against the finger p 'belonging to the pair of fingers which engages with the consecutive square g.
Thus, the logs are unloaded in the first magazine and the square g is taken beyond the spring <I> p </I> <B> '</B> by the finger p ", until ello be straightened with the new key by the bottom plate of the slide.
The front edge of the mouth of each magazine m is rounded as indicated in -) n1 (fig. 3), to facilitate the overflow of logs in a corridor (not shown) of where they are returned to the hopper <I> a. </I> A median tab m2 provided in the. mouth of the magazines, ensures a more perfect storage, since it prevents the unloaded logs from accumulating on one side of the magazine.
In the variant shown in FIG. 6, <B> the </B> bottom of the hopper a 'is formed by an endless band a $ running in the direction indicated by the arrows, @ so that it tends to make the sticks come out of the load-discharge orifice a 'of the hopper.
This orifice is almost completely closed by an adjustable rotating drum a 'which is actuated in the direction of the arrow, that is to say in a direction opposite to that of the driving movement of the strip, and of which the periphery is so close to the drive surface of the a8 belt that only a few logs can, at any time, continue to travel with the belt.
When the logs leave the strip, they are received by an inclined apron d1, similar to the apron d already described - and which brings them to the conveyor e. This feed can be adjusted by a small rotating brush in the direction of the arrow above the lower end of the apron.
