Description

Process for the preparation of an oil for the impregnation of wood. The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of an oil permitting the impregnation of woods by simple immersion at atmospheric pressure.

According to this process, this impregnating oil is obtained by mixing a creosote oil with a small amount of phenol, stirring continuously and filtering this mixture after having allowed it to stand.

Experience has shown that when creosote oils are stirred more or less long in the presence of small amounts of phenol, with which other substances such as tar, light coal oil and other substances can be mixed. benzol, and when this mixture is then filtered, creosote oils are obtained which perfectly penetrate the pores of the woods at ordinary atmospheric pressure.

In practice, good results can be obtained under the following conditions. For example, the following mixture is made
EMI0001.0004

    Creosote <SEP> 70.0 <SEP> parts
<tb> Phenol <SEP> (from <SEP> commerce) <SEP> to <SEP> 32 <SEP>% <SEP> 6.0 <SEP> "
<tb> Tar <SEP> from <SEP> coal <SEP> 9.5
<tb> Oil <SEP> light <SEP> of <SEP> coal <SEP> 8.0 <SEP> "
<tb> Benzol <SEP> <U> 6.5 <SEP> "</U>
<tb> <U> 100.0 <SEP> parts </U> This mixture is cured for approximately two hours. in a trough provided with positive agitators.

The addition of phenol has, among other things, the effect of eliminating certain compounds which hardly penetrate into the wood, or preventing the penetration of the oily fungicidal principles necessary for its conservation, and also to eliminate traces of ammonia, contained as an impurity in coal tar. These compounds are mainly paraffins, or saturated hydrocarbons of the general form C "H2" .2 which are constituents of creosote oils.

Allowed to stand and then decanted on a filter which preferably consists of a column comprising one or more layers of crushed or pulverized coke, or other coal. absorption. The creosote oil thus obtained has a density of between 1060 and 1100.

For the impregnation of the wood, it suffices to soak them therein for a more or less long time and the liquid can be contained in an open trough or tank, at atmospheric pressure.

In some cases, the impregnating oil can be heated up to <B> 100 '</B> C, but it is also possible to operate at ordinary temperature.
