Large diameter diaphragm speaking machine. In talking machines using a large diameter diaphragm, the latter is generally placed parallel or slightly inclined above the disc, so that the tip or style (it actuates it can follow the engraved undulations of this disc As a result of this arrangement the disc is largely obscured and the styling cannot.
be seen that by plunging the gaze into the small space separating the disc from the diaphragm, from which results for the operator a difficulty in each disc replacement when this point must be engaged in the engraved turns of the lisque so that the hearing of the song inscribed on it can take place.
The present invention relates to a speaking machine with a large diameter diaphragm in which the aforementioned drawback is completely eliminated.
The diaphragm of this machine is mounted on a bracket, attached to. the. machine body, so as to. be able to oscillate horizontally above the turntable and occupy a vertical position during play.
This machine is characterized in that it comprises members making it possible to rotate the diaphragm with the support arm about a horizontal axis, so as to be able to place it substantially parallel to the turntable, when the. my china is at rest, said horizontal axis being approximately at the level of the lowest point of the diaphragm, when the latter is vertical.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, various embodiments of the subject of the invention.
The, fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the diaphragm of the machine, in operating position, as well as of all of the members supporting it; The, fig. 2 is a partially cutaway plan view, and FIG. 3 is a side elevational view of the diaphragm in the same position as the sides of the fi-. 1; The fib. 4 and 5 show in elevation and in plan the diaphragm in the folded down position corresponding to rest and allowing the cover of the apparatus to be closed; The fi-.
G is a vertical section of the diaphragm showing: the organs for transmitting to the diaphragm the vibrations received by the needle in contact with the disc; Fig. 7 is a partial front elevation view of the diaphragm on the same scale as FIG. 6; Figs. 8 to 10 represent construction variations.
The diaphragm d is of the type described in French patent no.401501 of the same holder, it is formed by a sheet of special paper pleated in the manner of the awakening and developed to join the two extreme folds which are fixed by gluing or otherwise. The edge of this diaphragm thus obtained is clamped between two metallic washers r or in a single washer folded back by stamping to form a rigid circle on one of the faces of which are fixed the arms c of a rigid star support serving to suspend the diaphragm at. the end of another support p (fi- * 1).
These radiating arms c of the support are integral with a central disc c 'which externally comprises a button b whose rod b' is fixed to the center of the aforesaid disc c1 by screwing or riveting. This rod b 'passes through an eye with which the free end of the support p is provided, the other end or base of which pivots about a horizontal axis a located at the end of a collar e made integral with a sleeve g rotating around d 'a vertical axis <I> f </I> screwed on a shutter h.' hinged on a plate <I> la </I> forming the top of a slide j which can move along a 7th slide fixed to the plate z
from the appliance box. The shutter k, 'is hand held in the folded position fig. 1, 2 and 3 by an eccentric s or a bolt of any kind.
The spring formed from a steel blade is fixed, on the one hand, to the base of the support <B> 1) </B> and connected, on the other hand, by a threaded rod x. with nut -ri 'to. an arm q fixed to the top of the pivoting sleeve g (fig. 1) in order to allow the <I> of the </I> pressure exerted by the needle on the disc to be adjusted. The blade iii (fig. 1 and 5) and the. rod ii can be replaced by a coil spring 5 (fi- ,. 10), attached respectively to the support 1) or to the support:
p '(fig. 10) and the support q.
It can therefore be seen that the weight of the diaphragm of the support and of the transmission members is at least partially compensated by the spring iii. resp. 5.
At a point on the circumference of the circle and on the. face receiving the star support c is. fixed the holder of the re producer style holder which comprises an ear ii pierced with a hole t and carrying at the end and below a sf-melle ii 'provided with a longitudinal slot in which is.
inserted one of the edges of a flexible steel blade o whose other edge is inserted in the head of the holder-stvic- v which receives the style or needle. @ tightened by a pressure screw i !. The style holder is cloned back to the ear @i by the leaf ck spring o.
The mechanism transmitting to the diaphragm d the vibrations received: by the style x is constituted by a connecting rod y through the; - the hole t and whose one end is articulated in <I> y '</I> on the mouthpiece <B> & </B> belonging to the z- style holder,
while the other end is articulated in y'1 to one of the branches of a return bracket located towards the center (the diaphragm and elastically mounted on the disc c 'of the star support e through the intermediary of a leaf spring o ',
that is to say in the manner already described for the style carrier r. The connecting rod is cut there preferably in the form of a body of equal strength, it can be made of wood, bamboo or light metal (magnesium for example).
At the second branch-:. ' of the square located at the center of the diaphragm is articulated at d "the end of the axial rod of the diaphragm d.
The-style-holder also constitutes a bracket like that. -I.:, 'E- these two brackets are articulated <i bending by the blades of. res sort o o 'at very high vibratory # cicc # freqiie. The joints y 'y11 of the. connecting rod y and that d11 of the rod d 'of the diaphragm are without frills.
Operation is easily understood: In the state of rest, the diaphragm is horizontal as shown in the elevation and fi plan views. 4 and 5, this position is obtained by releasing the shutter lz 'from its latch s and by raising said shutter to the vertical position of which the axial bush g, the support p and the diaphragm d are secured. Beforehand, the slide j is pushed back to the side opposite to that where the usual circular plate l is located on which the disc D is placed (fig. 5). In this way, the diaphragm fits easily into the box, the cover of which can be folded down (fig. 4).
To make use of the. machine, the flap 1a 'is folded down, which has the effect of raising the support and the diaphragm vertically; then, the shutter is locked by actuating the eccentric s and the slide j is advanced to. the. position shown by the plan view in fig. 2. so that the plane of the diaphragm moves angularly between the generally accepted limits, ie between the tangents conducted from the base of the axial sleeve g to the disc.
The operator then rotates the support on the axis f in order to bring the diaphragm to. the periphery of the disc and where the engraved turns begin. At this moment, he acts on button b or on the edge of the diaphragm to turn the latter so as to bring the needle holder to its place, that is to say to. lower part. He then lets the needle x rest on the previously rotated disc and the execution begins.
The suspension of the diaphragm is very elastic thanks to a compensation spring <I> in. </I> Its angular drive by the turns of the disc occurs without appreciable resistance as a result of the pivoting of the sleeve g on its axis. This can be fitted with ball bearings. the way of a bicycle hub. The rotation of the diaphragm in its plane with respect to the support can be obtained in various ways and for example by means of the devices shown in fig. 8 to 10.
This rotation allows the vibration transmission members to be brought into a suitable position for changing the needle.
In fig. 8, 9, the disc c 'of the star support c is provided with an annular rail 1, and the support p comprises three equally distant grooved rollers 2.
In fig. 10, the circle r of the diaphragm is provided with a rail 3, and the support p 'of particular shape comprises three rollers, one, 4, rolling inside the rail and the other two, 41, rolling outside. In this fig. 10, the star support <I> c ci </I> is not shown to simplify the drawing and the compensating spring is here a coil spring 5.
