Description

Process for manufacturing cellulose granules. The present invention relates to a process for manufacturing cellulose granules. which is characterized in that the calibrated sawdust is subjected to a treatment which extracts the lignins therefrom, so as to leave the cellulose pure.

One can, for example, proceed as follows: The sawdust is first of all sieved through two successive sieves excluding pieces that are too bulky (chips, logs, etc.) and dust that is too fine.

It is then treated with a sodium hydroxide solution to eliminate the lignins from the wood so as to leave only the cellulose. In short, it is the first operation in the manufacture of pulp, for paper.

The result of the operation is pure cellulose, in the form of kinds of granules, light, porous, homogeneous, unassailable in particular by acetone.

It is filtered off, dried and these granules are in this form which is particularly suitable for storage: dissolved gases. Their porosity is close to 70%, rather less; their great lightness.

They support placing in a receptacle under direct compaction and by stuffing, giving an absolutely equal distribution, without “ta pons”. One kilo can fill a three-liter receptacle and receive 500 liters of dissolved acetylene gas, leaving complete freedom of dilation, but opposing the so dangerous spitting, not only by the discomfort which they bring to the exit of the gas, but especially by the decrease in volume and by the voids which result from it. It must therefore be understood that the treatment could be other than that cited and that any of the known processes for obtaining paper pulp, either with soda, bisulphite, etc., in a boiler or in an autoclave, depending on the working conditions and the material involved, can also be used.

These cellulose granules can be used in many other applications than that of barnissabe for dissolved gas cylinders.
