Description

Cast lead seal for water, gas, air pipes, etc. The object of the invention is a tight seal intended to join the tubular elements of the pipes for water, gas, air or other fluids under pressure.

Until now, lead seals used for this purpose required very expensive matting and gave rise to leaks, especially as soon as the internal pressure tended to rise in the pipe.

The joint which is the subject of the invention is characterized by the fact that the lead which is poured therein is hooked inside and outside and thus made integral with the male and female ends to be connected, by means of grooves formed on the walls opposite of these end caps.

The single figure of the attached drawing shows, by way of example, the section of an embodiment of the seal according to the invention.

In this drawing, a denotes the cast lead forming a joint; b designates the female end to be connected, in the inner wall of which is formed a circular groove c, in the form of a dovetail. d designates the male end, which has grooves e on the outside, which, together with the dovetail groove c, serve to anchor the mass of lead a forming a joint; the male element d is terminated by a flange f serving to retain a winding of tarred twine y, on which the lead seal a bears.

The entire seal thus established is the more tight the higher the pressure - it easily withstands internal pressures of 25 kg. This seal also provides a very significant saving in lead. Finally, it removes the labor required for matting.
