Description
Process for producing a soluble copper compound. The main patent describes a process according to which a complex compound of antimony with pyrogallol disulfonic acid is obtained. Compounds of this type differ from ordinary salts of antimony in that they do not have a number of reactions of these salts. They contain the antimony in a more solid so-called complex compound. These substances can be used as remedies, because in them, due to the stronger binding of the antimony, the harmful effect is suppressed compared to the healing effect.
It has been found that the same conditions prevail when potassium catechol disulphosate is reacted with copper hydroxide in the presence of potash.
The process is best carried out in such a way that potassium catechol disulphonate is reacted with the necessary copper compound in an aqueous solution, optionally with heating, with potassium being added as required. Example 35 grams of pyrocatechol disulphonic acid potassium are dissolved in 200 cm "of water and a suspension of copper hydroxide prepared from vitriol by precipitation with sodium hydroxide solution, suction, washing and stirring with water is added to the hot solution for as long as it is still dissolves.
At the same time, dilute potassium hydroxide solution is added to the extent that the final reaction is completely or almost neutral. It is filtered and the complex salt formed can be obtained from the dark green solution by precipitation with an organic solvent or by evaporation.
