Description

Process for the manufacture of ceramic products. The invention relates to a method for producing ceramic products, in particular those which are refractory or acid-proof and are prepared from binding material and leaning agents.

According to the process, high-alumina binders are converted into the colloidal state by the addition of electrolytes and water, then the binder is mixed with granular lean agents in such a ratio that the mixture is not pourable, but only each grain of the lean agent with one thin coating of the colloidal binder is seen ver, whereupon the deformation takes place under strong mechanical processing and the briquettes are fired. So binding material and leaning agent are processed separately.

The binding agent is converted into a pourable state with the addition of electrolytes, the lean agent is granulated for itself, according to the intended purpose; only then does the mixing and the deformation of the mixture take place under heavy mechanical processing. It is essential to make the binding agent particularly liquid, for which electrolytes such as alkali, alkali carbonates, alkali silicates are possible.

In addition, protective colloids, which can promote the liquefaction of the binding substance, are advantageously used as additives, for example high molecular weight substances, humus substances, dextrin, pulp waste liquors.

Kaolin is primarily used as the binding material, and other high-alumina binding materials are also used, even those that are not yet plastic in their natural state. Examples of this are: bauxite and related alumina minerals, alumina silicic acid minerals such as sillimanite, andalusite, cyanite, and also high-alumina shale clays. First of all, these substances have to be made cohesive and binding through the greatest possible fine-graining, after which the slippage occurs.

These binding substances are also linked to alumina in its various forms, as alumina hydrate, annealed alumina, molten alumina. The clay must first be made sculptural by fine-tuning.

The sense of the new process is always to use the binding agent finely. He is to be used in a disperse, colloidal form that he is aiming for through suitable liquefaction. In this way, the binding capacity is greatly increased and this creates the possibility of reducing the amount of binding agent as far as possible, measured against the amount of leaning agents. At the same time, due to the fine distribution, uniform mixing with the lean agents is achieved, that is, each lean grain is coated with a fine layer of the binding substance, for example the kaolin.

The new manufacturing process is therefore particularly intended for lean masses, which consist primarily of lean material and only a small amount of binding agent. You can get down to a few percent binding material.

If it is a matter of very lean masses, it is advantageous to use the kaolin slip respectively. to make the slip of the high-alumina binding material very thin by adding a larger amount of water than is necessary for liquefaction, in order to ensure a better distribution of the binding agent in the mass and a complete coating of every 1-day grain. The excess water can be removed from the finished mixture prior to deformation, as far as necessary, by known means, for example heat.

A complete and rapid mixing of the mass can also be achieved by converting part of the lean agent, suitably part of the finest grain components, together with the kaolin or other binding material, into a pourable state and converting this from the clay-rich binding material casting slip consisting of fine lean grains is then mixed with the rest of the lean agent.

Part of the mixing work is already done in the production of the casting slip, and the plague of the lean agent is more easily enveloped by the larger mass than by the small amount of pure binding material or kaolin slip.

As a lean agent for the new manufacturing process of ceramic products, all the usual backfill materials come into question, in particular those used for refractory products. Scha moth can be used, i.e. prebaked clay, which is prebaked to a particularly high level for the present process.

Also to be mentioned are: burnt granulated alumina, corundum, sillimanite or other alumina-silica minerals, artificially produced alumina-silica bodies, also carbides, zirconia, especially oxides such as chromium oxide, magnesium oxide, burnt dolomite, silica.

The mechanical processing to be carried out consists of hitting, tamping or pressing the mass composed of lean agent and casting slip or other corresponding types of deformation that are suitable for bringing about the most intimate touching of the individual mass parts.

The success of the new process is only achieved through this type of deformation. It should be emphasized that the mixture produced from binding agent and maizing agent in the prescribed manner does not allow deformation by casting (the previously only usual type of deformation when using a binder made colloidal by adding electrolyte).

The higher the applied pressure, the stronger the stones are and the more small additional amounts of slip can be used, because this makes the lean mass more or less greasy under pressure and allows a highly dense aggregation. In doing so, the finished briquettes usually contain so little -9Ta_sers, corresponding to the small amount of binder used, that they can be used immediately in the kiln without any special drying. can.

If there is a hatred of sufficient leaning from leaning agents that are largely stable in volume or have been made sufficiently stable through appropriate pre-burning, the products can only be burned at the point of use, for example after they have been installed in the operating furnace , respectively. - The briquettes produced by strong mechanical processing, but not yet fired, namely, have such a high mechanical strength that they can withstand transport, possibly further processing, storage, etc.

The new process results in bodies with a uniform, solid structure, minimal heat shrinkage, high spatial stability and high resistance to temperature fluctuations. These withstand the highest stresses, especially the simultaneous action of pressure at high temperatures, are particularly stable, especially if the material is selected accordingly.
