Description
Process for carrying out gas reactions with the aid of silent electrical discharges. The present invention relates to a method for carrying out reactions by the action of silent electrical discharges on gas mixtures, with at least one reaction product being created which has a higher boiling point than the most volatile component of the gas mixture, characterized in that the temperature is such that at most a smaller one Part of the reaction product condenses on the walls of the discharge space.
The process according to the invention can be carried out by preventing the gas mixture from being saturated with reaction products in a known manner by working at temperatures above the dew point of the mixture. One then achieves the advantage of saving cooling water at the same time; It is even possible to use the considerable energy not used for the reaction in the form of hot water or steam.
<I> Example: </I> A mixture of 97% hydrogen and 3% oxygen was exposed to silent electrical discharges in a discharge tube. When using the usual cooling, the tube delivered 2.5 grams of hydrogen peroxide per hour.
If the cooling water inflow was slowed down to such an extent that the temperature of the outflowing water was <B> 80 "</B> and the condensation of hydrogen peroxide did not take place in the tube, 4.0 grams of hydrogen peroxide were produced per hour with around 10% less energy consumption.
