Description
Electric discharge tube with light emission through the positive column. The invention relates to electrical discharge tubes with light emitting through the positive column, which are often used for advertising and signaling purposes. The color of the light emitted by such discharge tubes is different in some cases. Discharge tubes that are mainly filled with neon emit a reddish light, for example, while the emitted light can be blue if the tube contains mercury vapor above it. So far it has not been possible to manufacture discharge tubes which emit yellow light in a satisfactory manner.
Applicant has now found that the positive column of an electrical discharge tube emits yellow light when the tube contains a gas filling consisting practically of pure helium and the tube wall is at least partially made of a substance that absorbs violet light. The wall is expediently made at least partially from yellow glass. The discharge tube can, for example, be filled with helium at a pressure of about 9 mm of mercury, and the tube can contain small amounts of other gases or vapors that do not significantly change the color of the emitted light.
The Errtladungsröhre can be seen with both cold electrodes and hot cathodes, which are heated by a special power source or by the discharge who the. In some cases, hot cathodes can be used that are coated with a strong electron-emitting substance such as barium oxide.
The drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention. The wall of the discharge tube shown in the drawing is made of yellow glass that absorbs violet rays. On your feet 2, a hot cathode 3 is arranged, the power supply wires are led through the feet to the outside. In the end of the tube opposite the hot cathode there is a cup-like electrode 4. The tube is filled with helium under a pressure of 9 mm. If a discharge is established between the electrodes, it will be seen that the light emitted by the tube has a yellow color.
