Description

Process for the production of a new cellulose derivative. It was found; that a new cellulose derivative is obtained if cyanuric bromide is allowed to act on alkali cellulose.

The product obtained in this way is immune to substantive vat and acid dyes, but it can be colored with basic dyes. Boiling with water does not change the coloring properties of the new product. The same can be used as a raw material for the production of textile fibers. In the meantime, protection for the specified process is only claimed insofar as it does not involve a treatment of textile fibers for the purpose of their finishing which is suitable for the textile industry.

Example: The cellulose (sulphite cellulose, linters, cotton) is impregnated in 10% alcoholic caustic potash solution and the excess caustic is removed by pressing or centrifuging. It is then treated in a solution of cyanuric bromide in xylene for 9/2 hours at 70-80 °, in the presence of chalk powder. For 10 parts of cellulose, z. B. 3-5 parts of cyanuric bromide are used.

The amount of solvent depends on the equipment, whereby it must be ensured that the material is evenly saturated with the solution. When the reaction is complete, the product is rinsed warm, washed with water containing hydrochloric acid and rinsed again in warm water.
