Description

2FeSz+2H20+4C+130 = Fe203 -i- 2 HZS -f- 280, -I- 4 CO#,.

Process for the preparation of a mixture of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide. The invention relates to a method for producing a mixture of hydrogen sulphide and sulfur dioxide from sulfur ores as raw material.

This process is characterized in that the raw material mixed with carbon is made to glow and is exposed to a stream of water vapor of unsaturated, oxygen-containing gases.

To carry out the process, pebbles of any size can advantageously be used, which is mixed with fuel with the required carbon content and roasted, for example, in a pyrite roasting oven. In the course of roasting, air that has been passed through water at 70 to 72 C and therefore contains water vapor is passed through the glowing layer.

It is important to ensure that the air supplied is not saturated with water vapor, but that an excess of air resp. Oxygen is supplied, which is necessary because if the supplied air is saturated with water, only hydrogen sulfide is produced. It is well known that hydrogen sulphide and sulfur dioxide do not react with one another in the dry state, so it is possible to generate both gases side by side by providing a corresponding excess of air when the water vapor mixture is passed through the glowing raw material.

This process results in a gas mixture which, depending on the sulfur content of the raw material used, contains 5 to 7 percent by volume of hydrogen sulfide and optional amounts of sulfur dioxide. 2FeSz + 2H20 + 4C + 130 = Fe203 -i- 2 HZS -f- 2 80, -I- 4 CO #,. The reaction takes place in the glowing raw material. Post-heating is usually not necessary, since the temperature required for the reaction remains constant if the addition of steam is not too great is.
