Description

Cathode insulator for large rectifiers. The invention relates to a special design of the insulation between the vacuum vessel and the cathode container in large metal vapor rectifiers, that is to say a special design of the so-called cathode insulator.

The known cathode insulators be made of rings made of insulating material, for example porcelain rings. Cathode insulators have already been proposed which are made from individual ring disks, rubber and iron alternately, the iron parts being isolated from each other by the rubber disks. The porcelain insulators have the disadvantage that they have to build large rectifiers with very high power from mass, which make their manufacture difficult and promote their destruction or damage.

According to the invention, more favorable conditions for the cathode insulators are now created by providing two nested rings, the inner one of which is composed of segments made of insulating material and the outer of which is made of iron.

In the drawing, an execution example is shown.

The drawing shows a section through the insulator of a large rectifier. Between tween the vacuum vessel 1 and the cathode container 2 are between sealing washers 3 and 4 embedded, assembled into a ring porcelain segments 5, such as an iron ring 6, which encloses the porcelain ring segments as a closed whole. The ring 6 has a cavity 7 which is used for the passage of coolants. In front of the sealing rings 3 and 4, which are made of rubber, there are pre-sealing rings 8 and 9, which are made of such materials that a contamination of the vacuum, as could be the case if the rubber rings 3 and 4 directly with the vacuum in Be - Movement would come, not enter.

The joints between the porcelain ring segments are filled with asbestos.

While the porcelain ring segments are primarily used for insulation in the new cathode insulator, the main task of the iron ring is to absorb the mechanical stress between the parts to be connected. It is of course possible to use bodies made of other insulating material instead of the porcelain ring segments.
