Lighting device for articles made of transparent material. The invention relates to a lighting device for articles made of transparent material, such as glass, especially for ornaments, mascot characters and similar objects. The lighting can be from below or in some other way.
The lighting device for ornaments made of glass or the like according to the invention has an opaque housing, at least one translucent member fixed on the outside of the housing and means to illuminate the translucent member.
The lighting device expediently comprises means to allow different colors to appear individually or in combination or in a certain order without the illuminated object needing to be removed and without alternating use of colored panes. The color change can be done manually or automatically by rotating the lamp holder by an appropriate angle in such a way that either a single color or a mixture of colors can be obtained in a certain order by the rotation.
The object of the invention is shown in the drawing in two exemplary embodiments.
Fig. 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of a first embodiment; Fig. 2 is a section on the line II-II of Fig. 1; FIG. 3 is an elevation, in partial section, of another embodiment and FIG. 4 is an end view of the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3. a (Fig. 1 and 2) is an opaque housing which is made of metal or another building material and has a truncated pyramid shape.
The housing is equipped at the bottom b with a screw bolt c and a nut d in order to fasten the housing to a suitable object, for example a motor vehicle. One of the sides e of the housing is seen with an opening f ver, in which a sleeve or socket g sits, with bayonet locks at both ends. An electric lamp i is inserted into the bayonet catch part lt within the housing, while electrical leads for the lamp can be connected to the bayonet catch part j on the outside of the housing.
The upper side m of the housing is provided with an opening n and carries a frame piece with an inwardly directed, ge diapered flange p. The frame piece also has an outwardly directed flange which is attached to the upper part m of the housing by means of screws q.
The transparent or translucent object r, for example a mascot figure, to be illuminated is arranged over the opening n, this object being provided with a threadless flange s. This flange lies under the inwardly directed flange p of the frame piece, whereby the translucent object is held on the housing a. The lamp can have two colors, for example red and white, so that by rotating the lamp with its socket, a red or white light appears through the object. In this embodiment, for example, a mascot character, an ornament or the like is illuminated from below.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 3 and 4, an easily manually operable device is illustrated to change the color of the object to be illuminated accordingly by the light rays of the lamp.
The lines t lead through a rigid or flexible tube x and a shaped piece v to the lamp holder g with lamp i. The tube x is provided with screw thread at one end to and engages in a corre sponding hub thread of a handle z which is rotatably mounted in a plate ic fastened to a carrier y. By the handle z, the tube x can be rotated together with the lamp i, with a Dre hung of the handle z, which is greater than 360, is prevented by a stop z1 of the plate 2c.
The connection of the Fasson piece v with the socket g is not a bayonet lock, but a screw connection which is designed so that when the tube x is rotated by means of the handle z, the socket g and thereby the lamp i is rotated, so that as a result of the different colors located on the lamp i, colored light rays can be thrown onto the mascot figure r, since the lamp remains constantly in contact with its supply lines.
However, instead of the screw connection, a bayonet lock can be used in connection with a plug (cf. k in FIG. 1), provided that the socket is freely rotatable in the wall of the housing.
The frame piece can also form one piece with the housing a, and a translucent disk can also be inserted into the opening n of the housing a. A rack and pinion gear can also be used to rotate the lamp. An adjustable pulling element is attached between the operating lever and the rack, which enables the lamp to be rotated so that the desired color appears.
In further embodiments, two or more lines can be used, with which two or more colored lamps work together, using a two-pole or multi-pole switch for the purpose of setting the corresponding colors. The desired color can be switched on from anywhere at will.
The lighting device can also be used for tables.
Instead of being illuminated from below, the object can also be illuminated from another side.
