Description

Process for making a durable granular elastic fabric. The invention relates to a ver n I <B> "</B> a lireii for the production of a durable 2n -grained calcium cyanamide, both during the production,

just as nitrogen losses can largely be avoided when storing the finished products.

A large number of methods for granulating calcium cyanamide are known. For example, it has already been proposed to treat the calcium cyanamide with greater amounts of water than can be bound by the lime and carbide and to evaporate the chemically unbound water directly. A similar process is that the grain and drying is carried out in two separate operations.

The present process is a combination process and is characterized in that powdered calcium cyanamide is treated with a zenbe water that is sufficient to hydrate the admixtures, such as lime and calcium carbide, for example, and is granulated and granulated to remove the water is heated. It is particularly useful to carry out all treatment stages in special equipment.

The drying is not carried out, as before, at relatively low temperatures, but rather at elevated temperatures, in particular those of over <B> 100.degree. C., </B>. Heating to these high temperatures as quickly as possible avoids any conversion of the nitrogen into dicyandiamide and a loss of nitrogen due to the formation of ammonia.

The grain size of the calcium cyanamide can be used in any way, preferably before it is heated to remove the water, and grain size means any type of shaping. For example, solutions of nitrates, in particular calcium nitrate, ammonium nitrate or nitric acid, can be used as binders. However, other substances such as calcium chloride or other lime compounds, sugar, starch, urea, glucose, sulfites, etc., can also be used as such or in solution.

The supply of the binding agent or the binding agent solutions can be carried out at an ordinary temperature, in the heat, or particularly advantageously with cooling. The hydration of the lime stick material can take place in several stages, the same liquids can be used in all stages, or, for example, in the first stage only water and in a second stage the binder solution is brought into effect.

You can, for example, carry out hydration in the following way: you first mix the finely ground calcium cyanamide with the necessary amount of water intimately in a special mixer with suitable devices, for example a radial axis with blades or the like, for working through the mass ; The material is sent through this mixer so quickly that only partial hydration occurs and the temperature does not rise too high, not above 70.

From this mixer, the mass passes into a second apparatus, for example into a rotating drum, in which the hydration runs to the end, with considerably higher temperatures of up to 175, expediently 120 to 150, being achieved . Cooling can take place during and / or between the treatment stages. You can also use a part of the calcium cyanamide treated in this way with an excess of water. Treat with a solution of the binding agent containing excess water and then set this mixture with more calcium cyanamide.

The hydrated calcium cyanamide is expediently allowed to cool down.

A combination of the following work steps has proven to be particularly advantageous: Crude calcium cyanamide is hydrated with as little water as possible, but sufficient for the complete conversion of the free lime to calcium hydroxide and for the complete destruction of the calcium carbide. It is expedient to use amounts of water of 2 to 10%, preferably 3 to 6%, based on the amount of the crude calcium cyanamide.

The hydration can be carried out with cooling or, in order to obtain the fastest possible reaction, at an elevated temperature, even in compliance with the abovementioned conditions at temperatures above 100 ° C., care only it must be ensured that any dicyandiamide formation is avoided as far as possible. It is advisable to ensure an intimate mixture during hydration by stirring or the like.

The hydrated calcium cyanamide, expediently cooled to room temperature, is then treated with enough of an aqueous solution of the binding agent that a moist powder is formed. The binding agent is expediently used in a saturated or almost saturated, optionally warm solution. When using calcium nitrate, amounts of 5 to <B> 50% </B> (expediently 10 to 12%) nitrate in an approximately 50% solution can be used, for example.

Such concentrations apparently prevent the calcium cyanamide from dissolving. The moist powder is then crushed in a suitable mill. to destroy the lumps formed in the previous stages. The moist calcium cyanamide is then granulated in an expediently horizontal rotating cylinder at normal temperature and the granulated material is sieved off, the residues being returned to the comminution or granulation devices.

The granular, screened material is quickly heated to a high temperature in a special dryer so that decomposition is avoided and that the content of free water is reduced to 5% - preferably 1 to 2%. In this context, free water is understood to mean the water that can be driven off at temperatures below 115.degree. When most of the free water has been removed, drying or heating can be continued for a long time without damage, but it is advisable to complete the entire drying process in less than three hours.

The drying time naturally depends on the size of the grain.

In the accompanying drawings, an embodiment of the method is shown schematically using an exemplary apparatus, namely: Fig. 1 schematically shows the essential stages of the process and Fig. 2 is a view of a simple system for performing the method. As shown in Fig.l, the raw calcium cyanamide is treated in a mixer 3 with What water 2 until it is completely hydrated. The material is then cooled (4) and enters a mixer 5.

A solution 6 of a suitable binder, especially calcium nitrate in approximately 50% solution, is intimately mixed with it. When mixing, care should be taken to ensure that the solution is distributed as evenly over the entire mass as possible in order to prevent the formation of strong lumps and to facilitate the subsequent graining. Since the formation of lumps cannot be completely prevented, the damp material is brought into a disintegrator 7 by the mixers. This can be any suitable type of mill.

The material is then brought into the granulating device 8, where the material is agglomerated into granules of the desired size at air temperature. It is advisable to adjust the amount of solution and the type of granulation so that the size of the grains formed is between 8 and 100 meshes. The granulated product is then passed over a sieve 9 in order to hold back the particles that are larger than eight meshes, which are then returned to the disintegrator 7.

In addition to the sieve 9 or instead of the same, a sieve can be switched on between 7 and 8, which means that 8 is charged with completely uniform material of a certain size. The grains are then passed through a rotary dryer 11 and subjected to the action of hot gases that can be guided in cocurrent or countercurrent to the material. The sense of control of the gases is not very important, on the other hand it is important to remove the water in the shortest possible time.

It is important to remove the larger pieces of the granular material before drying because this avoids the formation of dieyanodiamide and these larger lumps can be returned to the disintegrator and made usable again. 2 consists essentially of a storage container 12 for hydrated chilled calcium cyanamide, from which it is brought by a screw conveyor 13 into a mixer 14, which consists for example of a cylinder which has a rotating shaft with blades or possesses similar organs.

A solution of calcium nitrate or a similar suitable binder is passed from the tank 15 through pipe 16 into the mixer 14, where it is applied to the material in the finest possible distribution, for example through a number of nozzles, in order to ensure a uniform To achieve wetting. From the end 17 of the mixer, the material arrives in the disintegrator 1.8 and from there into the granulation device 19. This is, for example, a slightly inclined open cylinder that "rotates" at a suitable speed so that the Material passes through in a relatively short time.

The cylinder should be constructed in such a way that the material cannot flow through freely, but accumulates in one or more points so that it can only continue to move after a certain level has been reached. The speed of rotation is expediently chosen so that the particles do not rotate completely, but fall back from the upper part of the cylinder. The rotation speed, the amount of mate rials, the moisture content and the dimensions of the cylinder BEZW. its divisions can be used to determine the size of the grain. In the case of the above mixture, for example, 45 minutes are sufficient for a sufficient grain size of the product.

From the outlet end 20, the material falls onto a conveyor device 21 and arrives at the vibrating screen 22, where the large particles are separated off, while the grains on the conveyor belt 23 enter the rotary dryer 24, which for example consists of a double-walled cylinder can stand, which is divided between the two Wan applications by radial longitudinal walls. The oversized grains separated on sieve 2.2 can be returned to the disintegrator 18 by a conveyor belt (not shown) or in any other way.

Hot air or hot combustion gases that are generated in the furnace 25, go through the tube 26 in the rotary dryer 24 without first coming into contact with the grains to be dried. The gases, which are expediently at a temperature of 250 to 275 enter and should exit at a temperature of slightly below 100, for example 8.5-, by stroking the dryer lengthways to the end 27, from where they are returned and .through the various departments of the Dryer that contains the grains, so that hot gases and material come into direct contact. The exhaust gases are passed through the pipe 28.

In the apparatus described above, special work steps are provided for hydration, addition of the binder, granulation and drying, the dicyandiamide formation, for example, either by the smallest possible excess of water or, in the case of an excess of water, by working at the lowest possible temperature or by rapid heating should be avoided.

A particular advantage of using the apparatus described for carrying out the new process is that it is already possible to convert almost all of the material into grain form in a single pass, whereas a great deal is possible with the known processes larger percentage of non-granulated material falls that has to be sent several times through the apparatus.

The process can be applied not only to calcium cyanamide produced from carbide, but also to such calcium cyanamide which is composed of calcium oxide or calcium carbonate and ammonia or ammonia-carbon oxide or. Carbon dioxide mixtures, hydrocyanic acid or similar gases are obtained. The grains can also be subjected to an oiling or similar treatment which further reduces the formation of dust in a known manner.
