Description
Aluminium-Silizium-Legierung.
Aluminum-silicon alloy. It is known that aluminum-silicon alloys with a predominantly eutectic structure, that is, alloys that contain 8 to 15 silicon, are refined in their structure by treatment with alkali metals, primarily sodium, whereby strength and elongation are increased. This treatment is commonly referred to as "modification".
Occasionally it has been suggested to add further additives to these alloys. However, it was found; The elongation was slightly impaired here, so that further tests were dispensed with and in some cases even before further components were added. was warned. Of course, on the other hand, the non-modified aluminum alloys with higher silicon contents have been further developed through the addition of heavy metals.
However, this is a different type of alloy with different properties and different uses. It. It has now been found that, in contrast to previous views, such aluminum alloys have a remarkable improvement in mechanical properties, in particular the yield point and fatigue strength, which are characterized by a content of 8 to 15% Silicon, 0.1 to <B> 0.6% </B> magnesium and also up to 1% of at least one that increases the fatigue strength. Alloy component.
The magnesium content is between 0.1 and 0.6%, but is preferably 0.3%, since the most favorable effects on yield point and fatigue strength have been shown here without the elongation and pourability being reduced to an inadmissible extent . If the magnesium content rises above 1%, then the strength and elongation decrease considerably.
Manganese can be used as an alloy component which increases the fatigue strength. The manganese content is expediently between 0.1 and 0.8%, but preferably 0.5%. Instead of manganese respectively. In addition, the metals chromium, nickel, cobalt, titanium, molybdenum, tungsten or vanadium can be used with approximately - albeit not quite the same chemical - effect.
In any case, however, it must be ensured that the addition of these metals, whether it is made individually or in combination, <B> 1% </B>, that of molybdenum and vanadium preferably <B> 0.3% </ B> not over rises. The total of the heavy metal additives mentioned, including manganese, should therefore be less than 1%.
The addition of copper, calcium or iron is to be avoided, since these metals, both individually and in combination with the others, exert unfavorable effects on the properties expected of the modified aluminum-silicon alloys.
The alloys can be further improved by heat treatment. It has been found here that this can be carried out in two ways. At first it works. already with a simple tempering to 140 to 185, preferably 150, for several hours after casting, strength and hardness and, to a lesser extent, also elongation can be increased. Alloys. of this type are hereinafter referred to as "tempered".
In order to achieve the highest values, a second type of heat treatment can be carried out, which consists of heating the cast pieces to 500 to 520 ° C., quenching and tempering at around <B> 150 '</B>. This second type of heat treatment is often used for aluminum alloys, while the first type was only known in exceptional cases.
In the following, the invention is further illustrated by a few examples. Aluminum-silicon alloys with about 12% silicon have so far shown the following values after the modification: Yield strength at 0.1%, the elongation remains 5 <B> kg / mm '</B> tensile strength 19 kg / mm2 elongation 5 fatigue strength 6.5 kg / mm 'Such an alloy was now melted and admixed with 0.3% magnesium and <B> 0.3% </B> manganese. The alloy now showed a strength of 21 kg / mm2, an elongation of <I> 7 </I>% o, a yield point of 9.5 kg / mm2 and a fatigue strength of 7.2 kg / mm '.
A heat treatment consisting of four hours of annealing at <B> 510, </B> quenching and twenty hours of tempering at <B> 150, '</B> resulted in the following values for this alloy: Strength of sand casting 25 kg / mm \ permanent mold casting 28 kg / mm2 elongation sand casting 2 permanent mold casting 1 yield point sand casting, 21 kg / mm 'permanent mold casting 24 <B> kg / mm </B> 2 fatigue strength sand casting <B> 7,
5 kg / mm 'Chill casting 11 kg / mm2 An alloy containing 12 / o silicon, 0.5 chromium, 0.5% magnesium, the remainder aluminum, showed the following properties as a sand casting: strength 16 kg / mm 'Yield strength 7 kg / mm' Elongation 2 fatigue strength 6; 8 k, - / mm 'This alloy was tempered for 20 hours at <B> 150' </B> and now had the following values:
Strength 20 kg / min- Elongation 1 yield point 1'3 kg / mm2 Fatigue strength 7-8 kg / mm 'During a heat treatment by annealing, quenching and artificial aging, the values increased as follows: Strength 30 kg / mm' Elongation 1 yield point 24 kg / mm 'fatigue limit 8.5 kg / mm'
