Description
B. in Mäuselöcher, Maulwurfshügel etc. gebracht.
Agent for combating animal pests. The present invention relates to means for controlling animal pests, in particular those who live underground in passages or caves, such. B. mice, field mice, moles, mole crickets, etc. The products according to the invention are characterized in that they consist of substances which supply hydrogen sulfide on contact with water. They are composed of a sulphide and an acidic substance.
It is known that hydrogen sulfide is a powerful poison and that it can destroy mice, field mice, moles and similar animals. Irrespective of this, hydrogen sulfide has never been used to control such pests until now, as no simple means of using it were known; for the use of hydrogen sulfide in bombs or the development of the same in special equipment is out of the question for the farmer. In addition, the effectiveness of the hydrogen sulfide, if it is brought into the fields in gaseous form, is not sustainable enough.
It has now been found that animal pests can be combated with hydrogen sulphide if a body which forms hydrogen sulphide is brought into the ground and which is decomposed by the action of water with the evolution of hydrogen sulphide. The present invention is a means for combating animal pests, glass consists of a mixture of at least two substances, one of which is a sulfide, the second is an acidic substance, which mixture splits off hydrogen sulfide by the action of water.
The sulfides under consideration are, for example, sodium, potassium, galcium, barium, strontium, magnesium, aluminum, beryllium sulfide, polysulfides, hydrosulfides. The acidic substances used are, for example, sodium or potassium bisulfate, bicarbonate, solid organic acids such as tartaric acid or oxalic acid. These mixtures can be used in the form of dry powders, or shaped as spheres, tablets, sticks, and the like.
These molded articles are advantageously coated with a thin layer of gelatin, talc, etc. so that they cannot develop hydrogen sulfide when stored. These products are z. B. brought into mouse holes, molehills, etc. Through the action of the soil moisture or through added water or lying down, hydrogen sulfide is developed, which penetrates the soil and spreads in particular in the holes or mounds, where the animals are destroyed.
Example: A powdery, odorless mixture of one part sodium sulphide with three parts sodium bisulphate is pressed into small spheres weighing approximately 2-3 grams. Two such spheres are put into mouse holes and the opening is then covered with soil. As a result of the moisture in the soil, a slow stream of hydrogen sulfide is developed which penetrates the passageways, gasifies the same and kills the animals living in them.
