Description
Process for the production of high emission cathodes. There are various methods for the Her position of high-emission cathodes have become known, the task of which is to achieve good adhesion of the emitting layer to the core wire or to the surface of the medium-heated cathode. However, these procedures have not always been satisfactory. For example, it has been proposed to decompose barium azide on a cathode provided with an alloyable metal. The resulting alloy reduced the strength of the wire.
It is also already known to deposit the vapor of an alkali or alkaline earth metal on an oxidized cathode wire.
According to the invention, a particularly resistant high-emission cathode is produced in that the difficult-to-melt core, which is made for example of tungsten, tantalum, molybdenum or platinum, is coated with a bare metal with an electrical conductivity at least equal to that of the Gold, e.g. B. copper, silver or gold, and is then provided with a slide of emitting substances. The metallic coating is advantageously melted, as this achieves particularly good adhesion.
All known methods can be used to apply the emitting coating. The application of the emitting substance as a paste, with an emitting mixture with a binding agent being applied, has proven particularly useful. In the degassing of electrical Entladungsge vessels with cathodes produced according to the method of the invention, metallic capture materials such as magnesium, barium are advantageously used.
The Ka methods produced according to the invention are characterized by good Emis sion with low wattage. They can cope with very high mechanical stresses during manufacture. Cathode wires and cathode tapes manufactured according to the process of the invention could be sharply bent 30 times at the same point without the emitting layer splintering. The method is therefore particularly suitable for mass production, since the wires are wound on spools.
