Description

Gesinterte Hartmetallegiernng.

Sintered hard metal alloy. For the machining of steel and steel alloys, sintered hard metal alloys are used which, in addition to tungsten carbide and lower-melting auxiliary metal (e.g. cobalt or nickel), contain titanium carbide or tantalum carbide.

The performance-enhancing effect of the addition of the last two carbides is based on the strong suppression of the scouring, which in sintered hard metal alloys containing only tungsten carbide in addition to auxiliary metal often occurs as a crater-shaped cavity immediately behind the cutting edge and results in the cutting edge being destroyed relatively quickly .

As a rough approximation, with increasing addition of titanium or tantalum carbide, the resistance to the occurrence of these harmful cavities increases, but at the same time the strength properties deteriorate so that the addition of the carbides mentioned is generally kept within certain limits .

It has now been shown that the above-described titanium or tantalum carbide-containing hard metal alloys, which were previously used in the machining of steel and steel alloys, are surprisingly far surpassed by such sintered hard metal alloys in terms of performance for this purpose which, in addition to tungsten carbide and auxiliary metal with a lower melting point, also contain titanium carbide and vanadium carbide, in such a way that

that the titanium carbide content exceeds the vanadium carbide content. The amount of auxiliary metal (e.g. cobalt, nickel, iron, manganese individually or mixed or alloys of these with e.g.

Wolf ram, molybdenum or chromium) fluctuates within the limits of 0.5 to 20%, while the titanium carbide content 3 to 30% and the vanadium carbide content 0,

3 to 10%. The best results are achieved with auxiliary metal contents of 3 to 10%, titanium carbide contents of 5 to 200% and vanadium carbide contents of 0.5 to 50%.

Alloys of the composition described above are particularly suitable for a wide variety of types of steel processing, but are particularly advantageous when performing finishing work. For example, one made of about 5.5% cobalt, 16% titanium carbide, 1% vanadium carbide

The remaining tungsten carbide sintered hard metal alloy when finishing steel bodies with a strength of around 90 kg / mm2 has a service life that is up to twice as long as a corresponding, but vanadium carbide-free alloy.
