Description

Capacitor assembled from sheet-shaped dielectric bodies provided with a metal coating. The invention relates to capacitors which are assembled from sheet-shaped dielectric bodies provided with a metal coating. The metal coating can be produced directly on the dielectric in a manner known per se by spraying, sputtering, rolling in, vapor deposition of the metal, cathode sputtering or the like.

With capacitors of this type, difficulties arise in establishing the power connection, in particular when the metal coating is very thin. Capacitors with very thin metal coatings, the layer thickness of which is in particular thinner than 0.001 mm, for example 0.0001 mm, have the advantage that in the event of a breakdown, the metal coating at the point of breakdown disappears in an area that is larger than that generated during the breakdown Hole in the dielectric. The short circuit caused by the breakdown is therefore interrupted by itself.

However, these capacitors have the unpleasant disadvantage that difficulties arise if you insert sheet metal strips in the usual way for the power connection, which are in direct contact with the assignments. As a result of the high current density at the edges of the metal strips, overheating easily occurs, so that the metal coating melts away here and the operational current transfer to the capacitor occupancy is interrupted.

According to the invention, this disadvantage is eliminated in that on an edge part of the sheet-like dielectric body provided with the metal coating there is a metal layer which is applied before the assembly of the capacitor and which is thicker than the rest of the metal coating. A further solderable metal layer can be applied as a current connection layer to the metal layer present on the edge part. The thickness of the thicker metal layer present on the edge part should be at least one and a half times the thickness of the remaining capacitor coating.

The reinforcement of the metallization at the edge of the dielectric is made before winding or laying the capacitor. After the capacitor has been tied together, a metallic power connection surface can be applied to the areas of the reinforced edge.

In the figures, execution examples of the invention are shown.

Fig. 1 shows a section through a capacitor according to the invention, the metallized, that is provided with a metal coating dielectric is carried out in a plane to the edge.

Fig. 2 shows partially in section a wound capacitor, the dielectric provided with a metal coating is folded around the edge.

The thickness dimensions of the individual layers are shown in exaggerated form in both figures in the interests of clearer reproduction. The dielectric layers, which can be made of paper, for example, are denoted by a in FIG.

The metallic coatings are very thinly applied to these dielectric layers, for example by vapor deposition or by cathode sputtering. On the edge parts c of the dielectric layers cc, the metal coatings (parts d) are reinforced, for example to two to three times the thickness of the remaining layer b, which acts as a capacitor coating.

The reinforcement of the metal coating on the edge parts c can be carried out immediately during the production of the remaining metal layer b with the same metallization process when the dielectric is metallized by using nozzles that have been expanded to match the reinforcement or by using additional nozzles.

The dielectric strips metallized in this way are laid one on top of the other in layers, or two such strips are wound up to form a capacitor. Under certain circumstances, one or more layers of non-metallized paper can be placed in between. After the condenser has been assembled, a metallic solderable power connection layer e is attached to the thicker metal layer d present on the edge parts, which can be sprayed on, for example. As a result of the reinforcement of the layer b at the points d , a good connection with the power connection layer e results here.

Power connecting wires, for example, can then be soldered to this layer e.

Fig. 2 shows a wound capacitor, the winding axis of which is indicated by A-A. The left side of the capacitor is partially shown in section. The paper layers are designated by f and g. The paper strip f 'is metallized by the metal coating h and the strip g is metallized by the metal coating i. The metal coverings are reinforced on the edge parts k and m and folded over with the paper by 1800 so that the metal layers are on the outside.

Two such strips are wound up together in such a way that the folded edge parts k of the one strip f on the one end face of the capacitor and the folded edge parts m < / I> of the other strip g lie on the other end of the capacitor. After the capacitor has been assembled, a solderable metal layer n and o is applied to each of the thicker transition layers at k and m as a power connection layer, to which a power connection wire p and q </ I> is soldered on.

The metallized papers with the folded edges according to FIG. 2 can also be assembled by laying one on top of the other instead of being rolled up.

Good results were obtained with a capacitor of the following dimensions: The paper strips a, f, g had a thickness of 8 × 10-3 mm. The thickness of the metal layer b, lt, i was 0.07 # 10-3 mm. At the edges, the metal layer was reinforced to 0.15 # 10-3 mm. The power connection layer e, n, o was sprayed on in a thickness of about 0.3 min.
