Description
Laryngoscope.
Laryngoscope. The object of the invention is a laryngoscope comprising a rod carrying at its end a mirror and an incandescent bulb. It is characterized in that this bulb is fixed in the end of the rod and extends behind a two-way part of the mirror so that it illuminates the part to be examined whose image is reflected by the mirror, and that the heat given off by the bulb heats the mirror and prevents it from fogging up.
The accompanying drawing gives, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof, FIG. 2 a section through II-II on a larger scale of FIG. 1, right view.
The laryngoscope shown in fig. 1 and 2 comprises a rod 1 formed of a metal tube lique at one end of which an inclined mirror 2 is fixed by means of a part 3 in a removable manner, this mirror comprises a part 2a, one-way. In the rod 1 is, moreover, fixed an incandescent bulb 4 of which a part is inside the rod and the illuminating part only comes out to the outside to be placed; when the mirror is placed, behind the two-way part 2a, inside part 3. The bulb thus illuminates, through the two-way part, the part of the throat to be examined, the part of which the image is reflected in the mirror.
The bulb is fixed in the stem in such a way that the seal between stem and bulb is completely waterproof, so that it is possible to separately and completely sterilize the stem with the bulb and the mirror, in boiling water and on the alcohol flame.
The rod 1 further comprises, inside, a metal conductor 5, made of copper, for example, insulated from the walls of the rod and connected with one terminal of the bulb, the other terminal of the bulb being connected to the metal rod itself. This conductor comes out of the rod at the end of the latter opposite the mirror and has a protruding part 5a.
The rod 1 is fixed in a metal tube 6 forming the handle of the laryngoscope, this handle, at its end opposite the rod, is arranged to receive a bipolar plug 7 which is inserted into a housing 8 of the handle. When the plug 7 is fully pushed into the housing 8, its central terminal 9 comes into contact with the projecting end 5a of the conductor 5, while its peripheral terminal 10 makes contact with the sleeve 6 itself connected. with the rod 1. Two conductors 11 connect the two terminals of the plug to an electricity source (battery or network).
The arrangement of the bulb inside the part 3 also has the advantage that the heat given off by the bulb heats the mirror and prevents the formation of fogging on the latter.
