La fig. 8 montre, à titre d'exemple, un dispositif permettant de modifier la forme du culot de l'étui obtenu par refoulement. Ce dis positif est analogue à celui qui a été employé pour le refoulement de la partie tubulaire et l'opération est conduite de façon identique;
Process for the production of cartridges of war and similar metallic props. It is known that the known method of manufacture. sockets. -of war cartridges or similar metal cases consists of a metal blank with a diameter clearly greater than the diameter of the case and of a thickness corresponding substantially to that of the base of this
case. By a first stamping pass, this metal blank is shaped into the shape of a cup, which is then brought to take the form of the definitive case by a series of numerous stamping operations requiring as many intermediate annealing operations.
A drawback of this method is that it requires very precise dimensions for the initial metal blank which is generally cut from. a sheet, where a delicate manufacture thereof and a high cost price. The cost price of the blank is further increased because of the significant metal waste due to the cutting.
Another drawback is the number of stamping operations and the resulting annealing operations.
The method forming the subject of the invention overcomes these two drawbacks.
It consists of a section of round bar, from which the shape of a case is obtained by upsetting the tubular part from the mass of the initial section.
According to the invention, the initial section of round bar, with a diameter equal to that of the base of the sleeve to be obtained, is introduced into a bore of the same diameter. -A heated die and, after it has taken a suitable temperature,
is pressed inside this die between a counter-punch of the diameter of the die and a punch of smaller diameter, of such sorb that, as a result of the pressure undergone by the metal and the state of plasticity in which is found as a result of the temperature rise undergone, part of the metal. of the section, forming the wall of the case,
is re-trodden in tubular form in the annular space included. between the punch and the die, while the other part of the metal, forming the base of the case, is molded to the shape of the space left free at the end of the movement. press, between the punch and the counter punch inside the die.
In a particular way of carrying out the method, use is made of a punch formed by a cylindrical rod having at the end a cone-shaped head, the point of which is turned towards the end and the base of which is rounded round. bead shape with a diameter slightly greater than <RTI
ID = "0002.0028"> that of the body of the punch in such a way that the backflow of the metal from the section occurs in the annular space between the die and this backwash.
The initial round bar section may optionally be subjected to preliminary heating before introduction into the die. If the shape of the base obtained does not correspond to that of the base of the desired case, the.
the internal face being necessarily conical, the case obtained can subsequently undergo a modification of the shape of the base, by pressing the latter inside a heated die between a punch and a counter-punch of suitable shapes.
The case obtained can subsequently undergo one or more stretching passes of the tubular wall in order to obtain the desired thicknesses. The number of these passes is always very small, because in the operation of pushing up the tubular wall, it is already possible to obtain an elongated case with a thin wall.
It follows from these considerations an obvious progress in the manufacturing industry of the cases concerned:
It is not necessary to have a very precise dimension of the initial section, a small variation in the diameter and in the length thereof simply resulting in a small variation in the length of the upset tubular part.
20 Reduction as much as possible of the metal waste during cutting, the cutting of the sections in the bar giving a very reduced waste compared to that resulting from the cutting of the blank in a sheet.
Reduction in the number of operations and annealing operations, the upsetting of the tubular wall giving in a single operation an elongated casing which alone would require a significant number of stamping and annealing operations in the known process.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of a cartridge case of war obtained by the method which is the subject of the invention, as well as a tool device suitable for obtaining this shape.
Figs. 1 to 4 represent, in cross section, the different phases of the execution of the socket.
Fig. 1 shows the initial round bar section.
Fig. 2 shows the shape of the case obtained after the operation of upsetting the tubular part, the thickness of which is equal to the maximum thickness of the wall of the final sleeve.
Fig. 3 shows this same case after shaping the base to obtain, in the example considered, a base with a flat interior face 1 that curves with the wall and to
outer face with a primer housing 2.
Fig. 4 shows the finished sleeve after stretching of the tubular wall 3 to obtain the desired thicknesses.
Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show a device intended to obtain the discharge of the tubular part, that is to say for obtaining the shape of FIG. 2.
The whole of this device is mounted on a press comprising two opposite movements. Parts 4 and 5 belong to the frame of the prawe and, therefore,
are fixed. 6 is the heated die. The latter is made of high tensile steel suitably chosen to maintain sufficient strength qualities at the temperature to which it is raised.
This die is fixed to part 4 of the press frame by a threaded shank 7. It comprises, along its axis, a cylindrical bore 8 with a diameter greater than 2 / @ o to 3 /, 0 mm than that of the section to be shaped. .
The matrix offers a wall thickness sufficient to resist without. deformation. to internal pressure due to the plasticity of the metal of the section. Around this matrix is placed a heating system, for example an electrical resistance system - which is shown schematically at 9 and is surrounded by a heat-insulating envelope 10.
The punch 11 has at the end a head 12 of conical shape, the base of which is rounded in the form of a bead 13. The diameter of this bead is equal to the internal diameter of the tubular part of the case to be obtained.
Behind this head 12, the punch has: a cylindrical part 14 of diameter very slightly smaller than that of the bead 13 and of a length a little greater than that of the tubular part of the case to be obtained; Another cylindrical part 15 disposed behind the previous one and of diameter equal to that of the bead 13; 30 a portion of larger diameter forming a plane shoulder 16 normal to the axo of the punch.
The punch <B> Il </B> actuated by a press movement is shown in fig. 5 in its rear position, in which the bead 13 is engaged with gentle friction in a guide ring 17 integral with the frame 5.
The counter-punch 18 is cylindrical in shape and has a diameter a few tenths of a millimeter smaller than that of the bore 8 of the die 6, except at its end where it has a short length of a cylindrical seat 19 adjusted to gentle friction in this bore. Fig. 5 shows the counter punch 18 in its rear position in which the seat 19 is fully engaged in the bore of the die 6.
The counter punch must be firmly abutted in this position so that it cannot be retracted under the action of the press force of the punch 11.
The upsetting operation is carried out as follows: The round bar section is introduced into the bore 8 of the die so as to occupy the position shown at 20 in FIG. 5; after a certain idle time intended to allow the section to set the temperature necessary to obtain sufficient plasticity of the metal, the press movement of the punch 11 is actuated. This dead time can be eliminated by subjecting the section to prior heating.
The punch 11 is carried forward, its cylindrical part 15 sliding in the ring 17. The conical head 12 comes into contact with the section 20 and, continuing its movement, sinks into the metal, this section which is abutted by the counter-punch 18. Thanks to the state of plasticity of the metal -du section, part of it is forced in tubular form in. the annular space between the die 6 and the bead 13 of the head of the punch.
The press movement stops in the position indicated by: fig. 6 when the head 12 of the punch arrives at a certain distance from the counter-punch 18, a distance which is determined by the stop of the shoulder 16 of the punch on the corresponding bearing surface of the frame 5.
We thus obtain, as shown in FIG. 6, a form of case 21, the base 22 of which is molded to the space left between the head 12 of the punch and that of the counter-punch 18 inside the die:
Fig. 7 shows how the case 21 is extracted; the punch 11 re comes to its rear position by driving the case out of the die 6; the case 21 thus driven abuts on the ring 17 which, operating as an extractor, releases it from the punch.
In the event that the movement -driving -of the case 21 by the punch does not occur, the case, remaining in the die 6 after being released from the punch 11, would be driven out of this die by a movement of press actuating the counter-punch 18 to bring it to the position indicated in FIG. 7.
In the -dispositif shown in the attached sins and described above, the flow: of the metal is obtained by the action of the punch 11 moving relative to the fixed assembly against the punch 18 and die 6 .
The same result can be obtained by a similar device in which the upsetting of the metal is obtained by the action of the counter-punch 18 moving with respect to the set of punch 11 and die 6.
Finally, the repression of the tubular part can obviously be obtained by any device similar to the two devices specified above and in which the relative movements of the punch 11, of the counter-punch 18 and of the die 6 would be the same.
In the device described above, the heating of the matrix is assumed to be obtained by an electrical resistance; but it is obvious that this heating can be obtained by any means other than an electrical resistance and such as a gas train, circulation of hot gases or any other system.
Fig. 8 shows, by way of example, a device for modifying the shape of the base of the case obtained by upsetting. This positive device is analogous to that which was used for the delivery of the tubular part and the operation is carried out in an identical manner;
only the shapes of the punch and the counter-punch differ.
The heated die 23 is identical to the die 6 of the previous device. The punch 24 and the counter-punch 25 are shown in FIG. 8,
at the end of the press movement. The end of the punch 24 is made at the request of the internal face of the base to be obtained and the end of the contm-punch 25 at the request of the external face of this base which comprises,
in the particular case considered, a primer housing 26. At the end of the press movement, the base 27 of the sleeve is thus shaped to the shape of the space left free inside the die. 23 between punch 24 and counter punch 25.
The sleeve then has the shape shown in FIG. 3.
To pass finally from the form of FIG. 3 to the final form of FIG. 4, that is to say to obtain the desired wall thicknesses, the tubular part will be subjected to stretching by any process.
